In the opening chapter, Robert Gundry states, "It is hoped that the following pages will contribute to an understanding and appreciation of the posttribulational position and that it will do so in a manner characterized by 'wisdom from above. . . First pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy' (James 3:17)." In keeping with this expressed desire, the author presents his thesis regarding Christ's second coming, not as a polemical argument, but as a reasonable and tenable position. This book propounds the thesis that Jesus will return after the tribulation and that the first resurrection will occur at that time. Dr. Gundry believes that biblical evidence points most naturally to this conclusion. Because of his discerning analysis of Scripture, his careful logic, and the thoughtful presentation of his views, he is one of today's leading spokesmen for posttribulational eschatology.

Robert Gundry explains the biblical basis for the belief in a post-tribulation rapture. This book is the most systematic and scholarly work I have ever read on the post-tribulation rapture.

Robert Gundry explains the biblical basis for the belief in a post-tribulation rapture. Not only does Professor Gundry make the post-tribulation rapture make perfect sense from a biblical perspective, he completely demolishes the pre-tribulation rapture teaching of the modern church age. After reading his book, I realized that the pre-tribulation rapture teaching completely distorted my understanding of the entire bible.

Flawless presentation, explanation, and defense of the post-tribulation viewpoint (done entirely scripturally, mind you, not apart from Scripture). Superb exposing and refutation of the increasingly visibly flawed, yet wildly popular (In America), pre-trib view. The author's style is clear, scholarly, non-combative/non-political, and thoroughly sound and convincing exegesis. I was a dedicated pre-tribber for the past decade since I got saved, and did much reading and studying on it, but in the last few weeks I only then for the first time gave it a truly critical treatment, and only then gave a fair consideration to alternatives. I quickly realized the untenable nature of the entire pre-trib scheme and abandoned it, but didn't yet know whether pre-wrath, mid-trib, or post-trib was the most scripturally-supported position. I read up on pre-wrath and post-trib, and found pre-wrath to be subject to many of the same fatal shortcomings as pre-trib. I realized post-trib is the most scripturally supported and (contrary to what I had thought for the past ten years) the least problematic view, but certain questions/confusions remained regarding the implications for certain notions and particular verses. This book addresses all of them, and reveals the many, many fatal flaws of the pre-trib scheme of interpretation. It also briefly touches upon mid-trib and pre-wrath, but by far the bulk of the book is aimed at the pre-trib camp, and it deals a devastating, dare I say nigh irrefutable, blow to it. A must read for every Christian not entirely familiar with or not thoroughly convinced of the post-trib paradigm Scripture teaches.

No matter where you fall on the pre, mid, post scale this is an excellent example of the post trib view. Also this view works very well with the amil view taught by Kim Riddlebarger and others. In America where most are pretrib without even understanding the church historically and globally does not hold to this. We owe it to the biblical authors and study of the bible to examine other well held views

After reading his book, I realized that the pre-tribulation rapture teaching completely distorted my understanding of the entire bible. Once I understood that Jesus Christ is returning AFTER the great tribulation, huge portions of the new testament AND old testament began to make perfect sense. If apocalyptic theology never seemed to make sense to you, or you had a nagging feeling something didn't seem right, read this book and you will realize it is not as difficult as some so called "bible scholars" make it appear, due to their distortion of the plain biblical text.

I like this book, it is well written and deals with the subject matter in a balanced way.

The whole issue of Pre or Post-Tribulation rapture has many arguements from both sides, and both sides claim that their views are well founded on scripture, this book is loaded with scripture and well presented arguements in favour of a Post-Tribulation rapture.

However, some of the language will be differcult for those who want someting a little lighter to read. Don't get me wrong I like the book, so 4 stars, but you will need to be serious about understanding this whole issue if you purchase this book.

Do I recommend it for someone wanting to really gain an understanding of the Post-Trib view. Yes, absolutely.

I have only completed about a third of the book, but have already had many questions I came to the book with answered. It is a well written book and completely (without being exhaustive)addresses the questions raised by pre/post tribulational positions. The author is writing to support the post-tribulational position, and does so masterfully.

The author was a professor at Westmont College. He goes into the end times theories and shows why the only one that can be substantiated from Scripture and matches the early church fathers is the one that the second coming, resurrection, and meeting Jesus in the sky occurs at the immediate end of the great tribulation.

Great book, Dr. Gundry obliterates the Pre-Tribulation rapture theory. I enjoyed the read.
