Image caption Roy Rogers and Dale Evans with their family on their California ranch - Marion is third left. In 1940, less than a week before Christmas, Marion Fleming was born in an air-raid shelter in Edinburgh. From the age of two she spent her childhood in a series of children's homes across Scotland. It was Merrilees who brought the famous singing cowboy Roy Rogers and queen of the west Dale Evans to the children's home. Roy and Dale were heroes to a generation of kids who had watched their movies at Saturday matinees and they now had a popular US TV show. They came to Edinburgh in the spring of 1954 while on a tour of the UK with their wild west show.

Dale recounts her story of her career in Hollywood, falling in love with Roy Rogers, the joy of raising her children, her rehabilitation from her stroke, saying good-bye to her husband .

A quick and easy read with wonderful suggestions for showing love and guidance to your grandchildren. I purchased extra copies to pass along to my friends who are new grandparents. The heartwarming stories give examples of showing love, discipline and kindness to our little ones as they grow up. In today's hectic world where parents are always busy, busy, busy, this book explains why spending time with your grandchildren creates a valuable, life-long influence in the child's life.

This book by America's favorite "cowgirl" is full of practical, down-to-earth advice on how to be a positive influence in the life of your grandchildren. It may seem old-fashioned to some, but good advice is never outdated!
