Talk about A Heart Renewed: Prescott Pioneers

Very well written Western book. It is a Christian book but you have to remember that years ago people did not usually have as of a relationship with Christ as we can today. most did not have the knowledge that most of us have today. Yes there are some thought about a married couple and sex - but only the hint of, etc. (like movies Used to be) and there is a rape (by her drunk brother) but nothing explicit about it.
A big part of this book is about Julia & her doubts and unforgiving of him which would be very typical when any type rape occurs to a female but she had it even worse because good woman back then kept themselves pure for their husbands (+ the added horrible bit that it was her brother who had also beat her up & tried to 'sell' her to a man (two actually) so he could get money to pay off his bills.
BUT despite that, there are a great many other things going on - which also includes a brother of Julia's sis-in-law and his time during the war and how he go to the city where his sis-in-law now lived.
This book was very interesting & kept me reading it. -- Yes, I am a Christian and I did not feel there was anything wrong in reading this book as it kept pretty much to how it was back then - and I love historical books.
Even though I feel this is a good book for adults, I do not feel that young teens should read it - because of the rape.
Hannah and Will have been married and are quiet happening living on the Colter Ranch. Little did they know just how quickly their family would grow.
Unexpectedly, Adam who was a Ranch neighbor of Will and Julia's in Texas before they moved West rides into the Colter Ranch with Julia at his side. This was so unexpected because Will had written his sister several times and never got a response. Will did not know just how evil his brother Reuben really was and he was to learn of his sister's unfortunate treatment and how it had effected her.

Will and Hannah are pregnant and concerned about the pregnancy has she had lost her first child from her late husband. Julia is having a hard time living with herself and wants to live and find work in town. Against Wills wishes for her to stay she does make the move.
Adam and she have grown quite fond of each other. But, will the trouble l especially of Julia keep her distant from Adam? How will her living in town effect the pregnancy with Hanna? Will the family recover from all of the anxiety between the different members? How will their lives be changed?
Oh my goodness, this story series hits so close to home for me in so many ways. Although not a brother but a stepfather, foster family, and an ex-husband caused my physical, mental and spiritual pain and suffering.

I always believed in Christ Jesus and his Father of whom I've learned is Jehovah God. I always knew forgiveness was important even if the other people didn't deserve it. It wasn't until I became a Witness for Jehovah and Jesus that I fully found peace from the forgiveness I gave so freely for all the abuse I suffered in my life.

I love these stories so much and appreciate the love you show in writing these clean thought provoking books. I'm ready to start book number 3 now. I pray that anyone who reads these stories will be as touched as I am.
"A Heart Renewed" is the 2nd novel in the Prescott Pioneers Series. After reading the first book, I didn't think Karen's writing could get any better . . . but I was wrong and was not disappointed.

"A Heart Renewed" picks up right where "A Dream Unfolding" left off and told us Julia Colter's and Adam Larson's story . . . it even brought back the character of Thomas Anderson (Drew & Hannah's brother/brother-in-law). This story is about forgiveness an how we all need it in order to live our lives as God wants. And although this is the 2nd book in th is series, it would be a stand alone novel . . . but I would suggest reading the 1st one because it was so good. .

As in the 1st novel, Karen Baney drew me right from the start and didn't let me go . . . I found myself once again feeling like I was right there with the characters, feeling anger, sadness and joy with them. And once again, my household chores were put on hold so I could continue to read this novel . . . it was that good. I can wait to get started on the 3rd book in this series. :)

So if you are wanting a GREAT book that will keep your attention and make you feel you are right there, along with getting an uplifting message without it being preachy, read "A Heart Renewed". You will not be disappointed.
I wasn't overly fond of the author's writing style, but it was well written w/ little or no grammer or editing errors. I personally didn't really like this book, but on the whole a sweet romance. And I stress the word romance, not necessarily story. I had one major objection.

The story revolved around the fact that one of the main characters was raped by her brother & her having to go through the aftermath of pain & emotion. I was not pleased when I read it even though it was not graphic.
Before anyone judges, let me make myself clear. This type of stuff does happen in real life & some people do find healing or solace in some novels that deal with abuse & other sad or horrific things that happen. Like Francine Rivers novels.
However, I believe there is enough junk & pain in real life that I don't see why it's necessary to make up stuff in fiction for the characters to go through, particularly that level of pain. Even if I get that the author put some struggles that the character was trying to overcome, & maybe having some of the readers relate who had gone through it, I just feel it didn't go with the length & certain feel of the book.
I guess what I'm trying to say is (& no offense to the author; her writing & the rest of the story other than this one point was decent) I don't think this book felt like it had the depth to take on this weighty issue.
Perhaps also, a little warning or disclosure in the book description may be nice to consider for those people who have sensitivity to this issue. Just a thought. Also I definitely wouldn't recommend it to younger teenagers!
So for those of you who object to reading books with this issue in it, steer clear.
