Linspired reveals the remarkable journey of the ultimate underdog, Jeremy Lin, superstar of the New York Knicks and the first American-born player of Chinese/Taiwanese descent to play in the NBA.

In spite of being cut by two NBA teams before he signed with the Knicks, Lin always trusted that God had a plan for his life and his talents: "I'm not exactly sure how it is all going to turn out, but I know for a fact that God has called me to be here now in the NBA," says Lin in Linspired.

After weeks of sitting at the end of the bench, a teammate’s injury finally placed Lin on the court. Since then, he has captivated sports fans throughout the world with his tremendous skill and humble response to “Linsanity.”

Weighing in on this phenomenon are tennis’s Michael Chang, the first notable Asian-American athlete, Lin’s pastor, Stephen Chen, and Pat Williams, senior vice president of the Orlando Magic. Other features include eight pages of full-color photos and in-depth interviews with Lin himself. Here is the remarkable inside story of the meteoric rise of Jeremy Lin.

I really enjoyed it. I enjoy reading about sports players that are Christians.

Inspirational story for others who have a "Dream" of someday being a professional in a sport or profession of their choice. Faith and Family played a very big role in his being where he is today. I use his story as an example to my grandsons to believe in themselves, and someday they too will have their dreams come true.

I love basketball. Admittedly I'm not a Knicks fan. I'm a Boston Celtics fan. They haven't been much competition though (I couldn't resist sorry) so I wasn't ashamed to cheer for Lin when he started his furious flight to stardom. And being an avid Boston sports fan I was aware of Lin while he was playing at Harvard and when he signed with Golden State I was glad. I knew he was a Christian and he seemed like a solid guy by all accounts. But who knew what was about to happen? Linspired chronicles the journey from Lin's earliest years to his present in a way that's intriguing.

However, I found myself wanting more details. Yorkey talks about Jeremy's struggles in faith, his doubts, and the temptation of stardom but the story lacked the human touch that might have really made Jeremy relatable. Don't get me wrong I wasn't look for morbid details of all of Jeremy's personal life. But I wanted him to be human. I wanted to relate as a Christian who also has struggles. I found myself liking Jeremy but it was hard to relate to the struggles a guy who was sitting on the bench of an NBA team making more money than I'll make in 10 years.

One of the most interesting anectdotes came towards the end of Linspired when Yorkey was discussing the media attention Jeremy's pastor was receiving. He relates that many of the reporters were searching for a "`prosperity gospel' angle--that if you pray hard enough and believe hard enough, then God will bless you and show favor toward you" (p. 168). Jeremy's pastor quickly dismisses this and focuses on living a life in obedience to Christ and Jeremey's success as God's grace. Helpful words.

Linspired reads like a sports article which I found refreshing. You had stats mixed in with personal tid bits like Jeremy Lin's faith and unique story as the first American born Chinese-Taiwanesse to find stardom in the NBA. You could enjoyably read through Linspired in one sitting. I recommend you do so.

I am not a big sports fan to begin with. And of the three main professional team sports in the United States--baseball, football, and basketball--the one about which I know and care the least is basketball. However, even I have heard of "Linsanity." Jeremy Shu-How Lin was born on August 23, 1988, in Los Angeles, CA, to Christian parents who are Taiwanese immigrants to the United States, and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area city of Palo Alto. He played basketball at Palo Alto High School, growing from five feet, three inches to six feet, two inches, then adding just over another inch in college. After receiving no athletic scholarship offers out of high school, he played for Harvard University, and being undrafted out of college, he reached a partially guaranteed contract deal in 2010 with his hometown Golden State Warriors but played very little and was assigned to the NBA Development League (D-League) three times.

Lin was waived by the Warriors and then the Houston Rockets the following preseason before joining the New York Knicks early in the 2011-12 season, with whom he unexpectedly led a winning streak by New York after being promoted to the starting lineup, and generated a global following known as Linsanity. However, one of the most noticeable things about Lin is that he is known for his public expression of his Christianity. Author Mike Yorkey, a sportswriter whose articles have appeared in such magazines as Skiing, Tennis, and Breakaway, and a former editor of Focus on the Family Magazine, included a chapter about Lin in his 2011 book Playing with Purpose: Inside the Lives and Faith of Top NBA Stars. However, with the onset of Linsanity, Yorkey decided to write an entire book which chronicles not only Lin's background and rise to stardom in the basketball world but also the place which his faith plays in his life.

Following the writing of Linspired, Lin, who is one of the few Asian Americans in NBA history and the first American of Chinese or Taiwanese descent to play in the league, has signed a three-year contract with the Rockets. While perhaps not as overt in his profession of Christianity as football player Tom Tebow, with whom Yorkey makes several comparisons, Lin is nonetheless quite open about his faith. Yorkey writes, "What interested me more about Jeremy--after having spoken with him--was his deep reservoir of faith, his commitment to seeing himself as a Christian first and a basketball player second. Here was a polite, humble, and hardworking young man who understood that God had a purpose for his life, whatever that might be" (pp. 12-13). Those who are into basketball will best appreciate this book, especially the discussions involving some of the intricacies of the game, but it can be enjoyed by anyone. The sports world, and our culture in general, need more good examples like Jeremy Lin.

I have heard of Jeremy Lin and the consistent way that he publicly lives his profession of faith in Jesus Christ. I also heard a bit about his meteoric rise and exposure. So, I came to this book with a great deal of respect for what this young man is doing.

"Linspired" was written by Mike Yorkey, who adds the interesting perspective of a Christian sportswriter. This book goes into detail about Lin's childhood, career,"Linsanity" phenomenon, faith (including some of his trials and temptations)...

It's not the most in-depth expose for "inquiring minds," but my teenaged son really enjoyed it, nonetheless. He is not an avid basketball fan, but a Christian that is easily inspired by those who are fearless enough to take such a journey that goes "against the grain" of popular culture.

Unfortunately, this book does not evoke much empathy for Jeremy Lin, the person. There is something about the way this is written that leaves Lin a distant character to us. He comes off as mostly stats and schedules and inspiring quotes. It's a lot of basketball and some interesting information...Yet it lacks the emotional depth that would have made this good book a great read.

I love that someone has taken the time to write an entire book devoted to such a positive figure. Jeremy Lin's story is an inspiring one. I just wish that in addition to more content, more depth was given to the man behind the phenomenon.
