DAVID A. PEOPLES is an internationally celebrated speaker, presenter, and sales trainer for major corporations and professional associations. He was IBM's first consulting instructor, where, over the past 30 years, he has trained more than 8,000 IBM salespeople. I stumbled upon this book when I had to give a presentation and it saved me. It explains exactly how to structure a talk with three take-away conclusions, with the supporting facts underlying them.

My masters thesis was creating a training program for Presentation Skills. Mr. Peoples' work was one of my constant sources for finishing the project, and his book is thorough enough for anyone who may find themselves in a public speaking situation.

A few things stood out about his book from the number I have read. The author presents an outline format that is easy to follow and should be followed. One of his innovations here is suggesting that the presenter write the conclusion before the introduction. This is so simple, it's brilliant. Most people feel they have to start from the beginning and sit there for days trying to think of something catchy. It almost never works. The author suggests writing the conclusion right after writing the objectives. This will give the presenter time to think of something memorable after working on the topic.

Another part of this book that really impressed me is the 60 Tips in 60 Minutes. These tips should be practiced until they become automatic. Before you know it, you will have automatically become a great presenter.

Here's another tip. Buy the book now. Don't wait for Presentation Surprise. Start now. You only want to be thinking of the topic when the assignment comes.

This book is awesome. I am a professional speaker and trainer and it has helped me immensely. Whenever I sit down to write a new seminar, I refer back to its tips to guide me. The best suggestion in the book is to give the audience a selfish reason to listen to you within the first two minutes. David Peoples also suggests writing your closing first so you know where you are headed. All of the tips are easy to understand and relevant. There is quite a bit of discussion about overhead transparencies and I think most people use Powerpoint presentations these days, but most of those concepts for creating effective slides apply to Powerpoint also.
It also gave me a lot of confidence since I knew I had covered all my bases by using this book to prepare. I highly recommend it for those who speak to groups for a living or make presentations as part of their jobs. I am also going to add it to my website as part of my suggested reading list. Buy it!

If you could only have one book on speaking and presentations, this should be the one! I've taken numerous speaking and presentations courses, won speaking contests, and I still learned many things from this book. It covers everything from controlling nervousness to why presentation skills are important.
If you are looking for practical, accessible ideas on giving presentations, there's a slew of them in this book. I stumbled upon this book when I had to give a presentation and it saved me. It explains exactly how to structure a talk with three take-away conclusions, with the supporting facts underlying them.

One of the best ideas in here was what to do when you have a LOT of facts you need to get across. It was a brilliant original idea which I used in presenting to a group from which I hoped to get a consulting job. I got the job worth $45,000. So, this book created $45,000 worth of business for me. It was the first major presentation I'd ever given and this book gave me the confidence and tools to give it. I would have been lost without this book.

When a young friend had to give a presentation to get hired, I bought him a copy of this book. He read it, used it and got the job.

The author has given many presentations to many top organizations, so this is brimming with practical advice from his own experience of giving presentations to many smart people. I still remember, and use, ideas in here. For example, include humor every 7 minutes of your presentation.

What I liked about the book it's set up as a presentation.

There is information in here I haven't seen elsewhere.
