How GenY Entrepreneurs are Rocking the World of Business and 8 Ways You Can Profit from Their Success. Guess what? Now entrepreneurs are starting businesses in their teens, before they are out of high school

How GenY Entrepreneurs are Rocking the World of Business and 8 Ways You Can Profit from Their Success. About Generation Y. Before I delve deeper into the book, let me explain Generation Y - called GenY for short. These are individuals born between 1977 and 1997. Guess what? Now entrepreneurs are starting businesses in their teens, before they are out of high school. As Professor Jeff Cornwall of Belmont University is quoted as saying in the book, Forty percent or more of students who come into our undergraduate entrepreneurship program as freshmen already have a business. It’s a whole new world.

How GenY Entrepreneurs Are Rocking the World of Business and 8 Ways You Can Profit From Their Success, Donna Fenn explores the potential impact that today's young entrepreneurs will have on the . Are they growing and running their companies in ways that are fundamentally different from previous generations? What impact will they have on the economy, and how are their triumphs - and their failures - instructive to all small-business owners? These are the questions that inspired me to write this book, and my journey gave me a fascinating glimpse into what I believe is our entrepreneurial future.

Talk about Upstarts!: How GenY Entrepreneurs are Rocking the World of Business and 8 Ways You Can Profit from Their Success

Scream_I LOVE YOU
I came across this book while looking for resources on starting a business, and I am so glad I did.

Upstarts! is an easy and excellent read about GenY entrepreneurs and how they use their instincts and technology to shake-up the business world. As a GenY-er, I found myself shaking my head in agreement many times as Donna Fenn explains the reasons (many of these entrepreneurs) chose to start their own businesses.

This book is not only insightful, but also extremely motivating. Reading how these entrepreneurs used their skills or decided to take on the status quo got my own wheels turning and focusing my own thoughts into sustainable ideas that could possibly be solid business ideas.

Do yourself a favor and pick up this book. Entrepreneur or not, it provides insights into how the Millennial generation will forever change the face of business.

Upstarts takes you on a journey inside the mind of a new generation of entrepreneurs. Donna Fenn's insights and case studies reveal how this new crop of entrepreneurs approach business and how their business endeavors will impact our future. Her findings appeal to a wide audience including aspiring entrepreneurs, existing entrepreneurs and venture capitalists.

I enjoyed reading her book from cover to cover. From Chapter 1, which shows how new innovative businesses are moving away from a personal accomplishments mentality to a new collaborative paradigm, to Chapter 9 which brings some perspective on the future of Upstarts.

In closing, I firmly believe that any Upstarters who adopt the lessons from this book is bound to challenge the conventional wisdom and create a new kind of venture with a great sense of purpose.

Donna Fenn takes a refreshing stance on GenY. Most people will say that this generation has been spoiled by the comforts and technologies that they have become accustomed to. Donna argues that for these same reasons GenY has the capacity, opportunities, and ambition to create their own business. When something isn't the way they like it, they are ready to change it. Their businesses are their identities and their pride. From t-shirt companies to internet start-ups, Donna covers all the angles when analyzing their success. Outlined in a concise manner, the strategies Donna examines are critical for all entrepreneurs to consider.

As an Entrepreneur, Upstarts is a great resource which proves that the creative force is alive and well. You can't help but feel energized while reading story after story of those who had the courage and desire to create or improve on what was already created. The following line best sums up the book for me: "why am I breaking my back on something that's not exciting to me." (page 84)It is that sentiment that resonates throughout the book while Donna Fenn describes each GenY Entrepreneur and how he or she has "rocked" the status quo. The book is written in a very readable style and thoroughly enjoyable.

from its cheesy title. Fenn's actual reporting reminds one of how great Inc. magazine was under George Gendron. Although the effort to stuff all these fascinating stories into a Gen-Y box, with not a little tendentious argumentation about how this generation of entrepreneurs is different than any other, is tedious, the stories themselves are instructive, exciting, often moving. Of course not a word of criticism escapes Fenn's lips, but one must wonder about a generation of business leaders who start out - and remain - in the world of college students selling stuff that college students need to other college students. But Fenn delivers the raw material to think about this issue, and many others in the dreadful world that she describes so well, where advanced technology is deployed to make one as tired of one's friends as the iPod makes one tired of the music we thought we loved the most.

I didn't read this book, I devoured it. As as young entrepreneur, I was overwhelmed with the compelling and concrete examples of GenY approaches to business. Upstarts! is a fresh roadmap for any person, project, organization, or company looking to "get" how business (and the world) can thrive in the transformational days ahead. I bought three for my friends stuck in boring jobs!

In addition to be very well-written, UpStarts is extremely inspiring, and most important very current (i.e [...] which has just been sold). Excellent book. It's definitely a must read, especially if you have entrepreneurial aspirations.
Upstarts! provides valuable perspective on how to reach the GenY leaders and how they think about their businesses. It is a keenly insightful guide for any generation of leader wanting to understand the mindset and culture of GenY CEO's...the entrepreneurs who will likely shape the next wave of industry successes.
