I usually reserve top ratings for books that I feel can really change my life. Well this book got close and like a lot of other reviewers opinions, there aren't too many new ideas in this book. However, it's the delivery of the networking message that sets this book apart. The author did a tremendous job of cutting all the fat out of the subject and getting to the point quickly. I appreciate that and thank him for being direct and respectful of time. So if you are looking for a book to teach you the important points of networking, this is a great start.

I have been in sales for almost eight years. I would always lean towards trying to sell over the phone because I was not comfortable 'NETWORKING'. All three of the sales managers I have encouraged me to go to Chamber of Commerce functions, etc and 'MEET' people and sell them on our services. I could not get my head around how to 'MEET' people and sell them. It seemed so fake, kinda soul draining.

Then my brother told me about this book, Cracking the Networking C-O-D-E. I spell it out like that because I think it is important that people realize that this book offers a simple 'human based' system, 4 steps to - as the author says - go from 'Met to Net'. This book helped me see that you don't build a network of customers, fans and friends by 'meeting and selling'. You do that by 'Connecting and Helping.'

I thought to myself after reading, I can help, I like helping. I got out there, started helping, starting 'Being Progress' and my sales (and friendships) have soared!

Dug this book. Really liked the style. Liked the lists. Easy to read. Easy to refer back to. No Bull. No fluff. The author is NOT on an ego trip. Real. I could tell he really wanted to help people network better. I am glad my manager had me read this book.

"I know what your parents said, but you must talk to strangers."

What's the last book you've read on networking? As a six-year member of Business Networking Int'l (BNI), I was leery about reading one more book about networking. I was wrong!

Author and speaker Dean Lindsay has a humorous way to remind us that networking is about trust, value, liking yourself... and that networking is an art, actually a skill, a creative process.

I believe with many things that we know, sometimes we need to be reminded about things like: Every time we network, we should play the role of a "progress agent," working to find mutual benefit.

If we need to network to grow our business or find good resources, Lindsay gives us the important "rehash" of the type of common mistakes and pitfalls - as well as the benefits of being a successful networker. Boy, did they hit home.

His 4-Step "Cracking the Network CODE" is: C: Create personal curb appeal (not new shrubbery but a "friendly" facelift)

O: Open face-to-face relationships (with those who want one)

D: Deliver solid first impressions (duh, mother always told us that)

E: Earn trust (easy to say, but hard sometimes to accomplish in today's e-mail, fast-paced business life.

Personally, as an extrovert I am energized by meeting new people and networking with them (even recalling my parents' warning about strangers). That is not true for everyone. Lindsay said, "Just because someone could, does not mean they will refer you to others." So networking is mostly about personal contact, ongoing relationships and as stated earlier, being a "progress agent."

And the book contains wonderful quotes and business reminders that we may or may not already know. Sometimes I get upset when a person I met networking doesn't want to interact, but then as the book says, I need to go on to the next person I meet, keep lines of communication open and work to build the kind of relationship that is mutually beneficial. It is not about collecting a bunch of strangers' business cards ... but turning strangers into friends. [...] says this is worth reading to be refocused and energized.

Cracking the Networking CODE is awesome. My mother saw Dean Lindsay speak at a conference in Atlanta and told me I had to get this book. She was right. Witty and powerful. If your business involves networking you must read this book. Relationships really are all about trust and progress and this book nails it. Thanks Mom.

I read a lot of books ranging from business, marketing, sales, etc. and I have to say, I really do like these simple yet effective books. They make everything so easy to understand. The lessons in the book are simple to apply but how many are willing to go out there and apply them right away? Great read with wisdom you could apply right away, it's just up to you! The author keeps it simple.
