The Church Mice and the Ring is a children's picture book by Graham Oakley. It chronicles the scrapes of the church mice as they try to find a home for a stray dog, a quest which soon comes to involve an easily lost diamond ring. It was published by Pan Macmillan. Humphrey's attempts to point out the hole in the ozone layer are disrupted by the arrival of Percy, a dog who is now living as a stray, having formerly been a Christmas present.

Graham Oakley's "The Church Mice" series. are not only for kids, but for adult readers, too. I am a Japanese reader and enjoying both Japanese translated publications and original English books. Really I enjoyed this series for long time. Having read the church mice series as a youngster in the eighties, I was delighted to re-discover how wonderful the books are now that I am reading them to my 5 and 6 year old charges where I work.

Graham Oakley (born 27 August 1929) is an English writer and illustrator best known for children's books. In his spare time, Graham currently coaches and occasionally plays for Redingensians Rugby football club in Reading. Oakley was born to Thomas and Flora (Madelay) Oakley in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. He currently resides in Bracknell with his wife and children.

I love the Church mice books with their far fetched and endearing anthropomorphic characters. Graham Oakley is a children's book author and illustrator, most active during the 1960s to 1980s. In this story Poor Sansom is rather upset when the mice invite an abandoned puppy to stay. Humphrey's ideas for finding the puppy a home are more and more reckless but alls well that ends well. He is best known for the Church Mice series and also illustrated many book covers in the 60s. For the current UK author of children's books at Top That! press see Graham Oakley. Graham Oakley's books bring back fond memories of my now 36 year old son's joy of reading them, so I ordered this one from the UK (as I now live in the US) for my 8 month old grandson (for when he gets slightly older, and doesn't think books are for teething! lol)

Where has this book been all my life? I'm adding it to my list of favorite reads ever. Very believable characters (okay, I can hear you snickering...yes, these are talking mice and dogs and cats, but, trust me, they are very believable.) A hilarious sense of doom confronts these characters, doom yet also salvation. Fun illustrations...clever story...oh, I don't know why, but I just loved this story.

fans of graham oakley's church mice series, which began in the 1970's, will not be disappointed in his latest installment. the church mice and the ring features the very realistic animal illustrations we've come to expect and a laugh out loud story that will delight children and the lucky adults who are reading it to them. half of the fun in enjoying oakley's books is in observing the many details in the illustrations with each of the many church mice exhibiting their own little personalities , not to mention sampson the church cat. this story tells of an adventure with a little dog they befriend and the results are both funny and sweet and of course with an ending as deeply satisfying as in any of the church mice series.

Having read the church mice series as a youngster in the eighties, I was delighted to re-discover how wonderful the books are now that I am reading them to my 5 and 6 year old charges where I work. In comparison to other children's picturebooks that the kids enjoy, I am pleased to say that this one in particular has become a much requested favorite (and one I never get bored of!)We all love the illustrations.
