Welcome to Road Fever 2010 ! (with apologies to Tim Cahill). I’m traveling to Chile on September 8 on a scouting trip for the planned Pacific Horticulture tour of Sept/Oct. 2011, and I hope you will indulge me in these Notes from the field. This was the first book I read by Cahill, and I highly recommend his books, most of which are anthologies of his columns for Outside magazine. He has traveled all over the world and has a hilarious dry wit. I will not be attempting to match his driving feat, nor will I even be the one doing the driving, and we will cover just over a quarter of the vast length of the country.
