Something always seems to go wrong when Rabbit is around, but Mouse lets him play with his toy plane anyway because he is his good friend.

Talk about My Friend Rabbit

There was nothing really wrong with this "classic" Caldecott Medal winning book. I just don't understand why it was selected as the best children's book of the year. The art is cute, but the story doesn't really develop a message or provide some life lesson. I only purchased the book because, my son suggested that he was trying to expose our granddaughter to the best of children's literature and offered that Caldecott winners were the only books that she was reading! The year 2003 must have been a very poor one for good children's literature if this was the best that came out of it.
I'm a Speech-Language Pathologist who uses books extensively in my therapy sessions. This is one of my favorite children's books to use with students. It's great for making inferences, talking about feelings, the sequence of events, and making up our own lines for the wordless pages. It has a sweet story line that all of my students love.
My young students loved the cover, but didn't find the story very interesting. The piling up of the animals is oddly off-putting and though the message is a good one, it didn't resonate for my kiddos.
I got this for my 19mo-old son, and we read through it in so much detail, looking at all the pictures and animals and what is happening... When I said it was time to say good night to the book, he held it to his chest and said "bed!". I let him take it to bed and left the hallway light on for him so he could look at it a little longer. For another 15 minutes we heard "Airpane. Uh oh! Mouse. Airpane. Tree. Oh no!" on the monitor.

It's now a week later and it's still his absolute favorite and still goes to bed with him.
This is hands down one of the best children's books ever written. I bought it for my own three year old daughter and have given it as a gift to all my nephews and nieces. It is hilarious, well illustrated, and has one of the best story lines of all time. It has a great moral message about friendships and making mistakes. I've read this book countless times to my kids and it never gets old. It is a must have for any child's library.
So cute. This is a book about a little rabbit who cannot seem to help getting into scrapes. The good news? His friends love him anyway and value his inventiveness.
My two year old daughter loved this book when I read it to her, I cannot follow along as this rabbit is pretty accident prone but overall cute.
It’s a funny story and creative content.
