The only book that doesn't apply to that is House of Leaves. Hands-down one of the best and scariest books I've ever read. I carried it with me everywhere while I was reading it because I literally could not stop. It grows darker with every turn of the page and it slowly becomes a meta experience of following breadcrumbs through footnotes, swirling text (you physically have to pick up the book and spin it sometimes), and occasionally pages and pages of nothingness. The characters' madness kind of becomes your own as you physically and figuratively weave through the book and the time and space it creates and it crawls under your skin and stays there.

This book has offered me the ability to learn how to sit with many difficult feelings that were unsafe to express growing up with loving kindness, just like I would have imagined a parent might do.

Because they will surely change just like the weather. 33 people found this helpful.

Waga's Big Scare book. I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I did and so I have to say this story let me down. He's not the biggest monster  . Waga is a monster (creepier than most monsters that appear in picture books), but he's lost his scare. What follows is Waga's temper tantrum about losing his scare and then his race to find it before the dawn of the next day. He finds it which makes for a surprise ending. The surprise ending redeemed this book for me.
