MyPyramid replaced the USDA Food Pyramid This time, food was shown on an actual plate, with fruits and vegetables taking up half the space.

MyPyramid replaced the USDA Food Pyramid. The pyramid was later redesigned as MyPyramid, which had vertical stripes of color representing food groups but also included an image of someone walking up the stairs of a pyramid to stress the importance of adding exercise to your day. It was a little more difficult to read, as the food groups were just piled at the bottom of the pyramid in seemingly random amounts. This time, food was shown on an actual plate, with fruits and vegetables taking up half the space, and grains and protein making up the other half. There's a glass to represent dairy.

The Healthy Eating Pyramid is a visual representation of the proportions of different foods we should eat each day for good health. As it lies in the centre of the pyramid, you should consume a moderate amount at each meal. High quality proteins (those that are of animal origin and are easier for the body to absorb) include meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy products. Low quality proteins also count towards your daily intake, including grains, fruit, vegetables, peas, beans, nuts and seeds. Dairy is also at the centre of the food pyramid and so should be eaten in moderate amounts at every meal.

The Healthy Eating Plate does not define a certain number of calories or servings per day from each food group. The eleven components assessed by the Alternate Healthy Eating Index were dairy products; vegetables; fruit; nuts & seeds; bread/grains; meat, poultry & fish; cholesterol; fat; sodium; alcohol; and multivitamins.

Improve how your child responds to vegetables by making them look fun to eat and delicious. The purpose of this educational book, then, is to expose a child to beautiful vegetables and make him/her curious enough to want to taste them. The use of pictures and colors are therefore very important to drive home these points.
