Moongobble has successfully completed two of his three Mighty Tasks: He's collected the Golden Acorns of Alcoona and bottled the tears of the Weeping Werewolf. There's only one more Mighty Task to go, then Moongobble will become a member of the Society of Magicians. But this might be the most difficult one of them all. Moongobble must go deep into the Forest of Boodle to recover the Queen's Belly Button, a magical stone that was plucked off an ancient statue by a band of elves. The Belly Button has the power to tempt its owner to do evil things -- and those elves have been causing trouble left and right. Moongobble enlists the help of Edward, Urk, the Rusty Knight, Fireball the Dragon, and Arfur, an old friend. Even with their help, this task won't be easy. Anyone who attempts to steal the Belly Button and fails will be turned into stone! Will Moongobble be able to successfully steal the stone and resist its powers?

Bruce Coville has once again written a story quite suitable for young fantasy fans. I read to my 5 and 6 year old sons and they always enjoy the magical follies of the less than competent magicians. The scary parts in the Moongobble series are not really scary, which is a plus, compared to Spiderwick where menacing goblins kill pets and dwarves, and some characters die. The very young boy, Edward, being the hero makes it all the more interesting for children. Also the language is much gentler than in Spiderwick. (...) As aways, the drawings added to the appeal as did the handsome production values with a volume sized perfectly for small readers' hands. After the happy ending there is a great picture with all the kids' favorite characters, plus the opening for additional books even after Moongobble has fulfilled his Mighty Tasks. May we hope for more, Mr. Coville?

I bought this book and the other 4 in the series based on the recommendation of another Mom. These chapter books are great for reading out loud, since they only have a few black and white pictures. The author ends most chapters with a sentence or phrase to make you want to keep going, so my son is always asking for one more chapter. I don't think my 6 year old is ready for Harry Potter and I can tell that these books are just right for him. I enjoy reading these out loud and have started laughing a few times as I'm reading the sentence. Too bad there only seem to be 5 books. We're on number 4 right now.

My below grade level second grade boys LOVED this whole series. Our school did not have any copies of the last book, so I ordered 7 from various sellers. These kiddos are usually reluctant readers, but they love Moongobble chapter books!

This was the perfect type of story for my son. We read a chapter every night and he was interested the whole time. He's in kindergarten and was just enthralled with the story line.

I have read all three of the first books to my K-1 students and they love them!! They are great read aloud books for this age level. The books are well written and the kids love to see the trouble Moongobble gets into. The characters are engaging and the humor is perfect for 5-7 year olds. There are some recurring themes throughout the series that the kids just love. The only problem is that there are only 4 books in the series so far. I highly reccommend these books!

These books are perfect for early chapter readers! The story is simple and entertaining. The characters are cute and lovable.

My 7 year old loves this series
Moongobble has successfully (sort of) completed two of his three tasks to prove that he deserves to be a magician. His third task is to retrieve a jewel called The Queen's Belly Button, which has the power to turn its owner evil, from the elves who stole it. The elves, who used to be peaceful creatures, have been badly influenced by the Belly Button and they do not want to give it back.

Edward et al. once again set out with Moongobble to help him get the jewel. It's obvious by now that Moongobble always needs help because every time he attempts a magic spell, he is still turning things into cheese. Will Moongobble, Edward, and the rest of the gang be able to resist the temptation of the Queen's Belly Button?

Again, there's some repetitiveness as the reader is re-oriented to Bruce Coville's world, and the same pattern is followed exactly, but this is mostly forgivable in a book aimed at children in grades 2-4. The recap is done quickly and the adventure begins almost immediately. As usual, there's a surprise at the end!

My daughters and I have enjoyed listening to MOONGOBBLE AND ME together, but my older daughter (4th grade) is also planning to check out the hardbacks from the library so she can read them and get credit for Scholastic's Reading Counts Program.

There are still a couple of books left in the MOONGOBBLE AND ME series. I've already downloaded the next one, The Mischief Monster.
