This book is the sixth in the Three Investigator series. The three boys travel to Skeleton Island and discover that the island is home to a ghost that seems to like to ride the merry-go-round at an abandoned amusement park. The Mystery of the Vanishing Treasure" precedes this book, and "The Mystery of the Fiery Eye" follows. As we learned in previous books, the Three Investigators are Jupiter Jones, Pete Crenshaw and Bob Andrews. The amusement park is to be the site of a film, but the ghostly happenings on the island are frightening local workers away and impeding the progress of the movie.

This book is one of my most favourites in the "Three Investigators" series. Another good three investigators mystery, but they honestly are all ready getting a bit predictable. I love mystery stories in which not everything is rationally explained (meaning: there's only a paranormal "explanation" after all, or "The monster lived after all!") at the end, and this one does have that element. Although I suppose in a young adult mystery series, you will end up with several "Scooby Doo" type stories.

The Three Investigators was a juvenile detective book series written by Robert Arthur J. originally called "Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators". It centered on a trio of high school boys - Jupiter Jones, Peter Crenshaw and Bob Andrews - who live in the fictional town of Rocky Beach, California. The boys spend their free time solving various mysteries rather than true crimes.

Stevenson’s Treasure Island, like the one located in San Francisco Bay that was once the site of a world’s fair, is as Californian as the Golden Gate itself. It has to be; it cannot be otherwise. And that is a very American fact, is it not? Yes, Stevenson found his island where he found his bride-to-be, having pursued her across the great American continent, in California, specifically Monterey, on whose rocky shores sea lions as off Treasure Island play.
