The Shadowlands is the third and final book in second series of Deltora Quest. Unlike the other books in the Deltora Quest series this one starts in the first part of the quest where the heroes finds what they need, and then the second part where they face the Shadow Lord. This also marks the first time Lief, Barda, and Jasmine travel with another companion since Glock's death at the hands of The Fear.

Deltora Quest 2 book.

Deltora Quest 2 book. Welcome to the Shadowlands - the terrifying and mysterious domain of the evil Shadow Lord. He has gone there to refuel his dark sorcery, taking thousands of Deltoran hostages with him.

The Shadowlands book. Rodda doesn't disappoint with the final instalment of Deltora Shadowlands. Once again, a children's book has reduced Another brilliant end to what was another brilliant series by Emily Rodda. Lief, Barda and Jasmine travel to the emerald isle of Keras  . After the long and dangerous quest for the Pirran Pipe, Lief, Jasmine and Barda must finally enter the Shadowlands to free the imprisoned Deltorans. With the assistance of new friends and plans that never quite work out as intended, will the three succeed? Or will their quest be all for nothing?

Then the three book Deltora Shadowlands series. Then the four volumes of the Dragons of Deltora. But since this is the first book in the Shadowlands series we do also get all of the introductory setup before the adventure begins

Then the three book Deltora Shadowlands series. This book is Volume 1 of the middle Deltora Shadowlands series. But since this is the first book in the Shadowlands series we do also get all of the introductory setup before the adventure begins. Unfortunately, there is a lot of wheel spinning before our heroes get on the road. There is also a sort of romantic sup-plot based on misunderstandings between Lief and Jasmine, and that is not a strong narrative thread.

Talk about The Shadowlands (Deltora Quest 2, Book 3)

Questanthr
This book is the third and final volume of the middle Deltora Shadowlands series. In the eight book Quest series, each volume concerns a search for one of the gems that fits in the magic belt of Deltora. In the Dragons series, our heroes must find and destroy the Four Sisters, one per volume.

This series involves the rescue of hostages taken to the Shadowlands at the end of Deltora Quest. The three books cover the search for the three pieces of the Pirran Pipe, and as this is the third book it covers the recovery of the third piece of the pipe and the showdown in the Shadowlands.

Now, all of this sounds like the same book, over and over again. However, Rodda does try to keep each book fresh. She has an eye on the arc of each series, but gives each individual book its own appeal, its own puzzles and its own challenges. That is quite a feat.

This book departs a bit from the quest angle because it also has to cover the confrontation in the Shadowlands and the wrap up back in Del. That's fine. Be warned though that the Shadowlands scenes involve a lot of very creepy stuff; more than just creatively imagined monsters. It's not over the top, but it could be fairly intense for a younger reader.

That leads me to suggest that if you're not inclined to go all the way with the Deltora stories, it seems this middle Shadowlands group is not essential to the overall Deltora saga, and could be skipped without losing the flow.

But that said, there is a lot of merit in driving on. These books are still a fine next step for younger fantasy readers. Deeper characters, more complex plot, more demanding writing style. A wonderful introduction to quest fantasy and very accessible and very satisfying.

As with Rhodda's other books, this is a good follow-on read. It's a journey, it's fun and you can read it straight through with speed and zest. Read the whole series, anything from Deltora and you never feel let down.

The last piece of the Pirran Pipe is swelled up by the darkness in the Shadow Arena.Lief, Barda and Jasmine must defeat the evil vraal of the Shadow Arena and triumph over the Shadow Lord.Making their way to the Shadow Arena, Lief, Barda and Jasmine must make it all the way to the Pirran Pipe, or die a terrible death as failures in the Shadow Arena. This series has been mostly based on saving the prisoners of the Shadowlands, but some of the prisoners have changed, and not for the better.Read the thrilling finale of Deltora Shadowlands to witness the evil events, and the triumph over the Shadow Lord as Lief, Barda and Jasmine fight, for the survival of Deltora.

This book is the conclusion to the Deltora Shadowlands series, which is the follow-up to the Deltora Quest series, and it most definetly won't dissapoint any Deltora fans, or any fantasy fans who are interested, although you should read all the Deltora's (both the Quest and the rest of the Shadowlands series) before starting this one, as you need to know all the information that they contain if you want to keep up. It starts off as Lief, Barda, and Jasmine leave the island of Auron to proceed to their last stop, the island of Keras. The Kerans, suprisingly, turn out to be the easiest of all of the three groups to get the pipe from, as they agree to lend the three heoros the third part of the mystical Pirran Pipe, agreeing to lend them it in exange for an item, which, to the shock of his companions, Lief seems eager to give. Why is Lief so willing to give the Kerans such a important magical item? The answer could go deeper than you might think. Finally, the three companions proceed to the shadowlands, but with an extra person along the way, who will, for obious reasons, play a huge role in this conclution. As the last hope for the imprisoned Deltorans proceed through the strange, dangerous Shadowlands, many secrects are revealed regarding Lief, Jasmine, Marilen, and Faith. Just like in Deltora Quest, all the clues which seem to point to nothing, add up to the final secret that very few know, and, also like Deltora Quest, you'll be doing two things after reading this book: Kicking yourself and begging for more, as everything from all the Deltora's add up to an amazing ending.

'There was a sudden, terrifying stillness. A bleak, bitter smell. A rapid, thumping sound, very close, mingled with the moaning wail of wind. And Lief opened his stinging eyes, took his first, gasping breath, in the Shadowlands.' from THE SHADOWLANDS, by EMILY RODDA.

This extraordinary conclusion to the DELTORA SHADOWLANDS trilogy will blow you away!

Lief, Barda and Jasmine acquire the third part of the Pirran Pipe easily enough, then they must face the dreaded Shadowlands. Will the slaves be freed? It all hangs by a thread in this masterful book by a talented writer.
Now long after the release of THE CAVERN OF THE FEAR which was not good but not bad my faith in Emily Rodda's techniques decreased and when I read THE ISLE OF ILLUSION vanished completely. My mind was a raging sea of her masterpiece DELTORA QUEST and DELTORA SHADOWLANDS that was now a failure. And it came, the iron clad warrior that banished THE CAVERN OF THE FEAR and THE ISLE OF ILLUSION: THE SHADOWLANDS. This book was awesome! Those who already like DELTORA SHADOWLANDS go on a roller coaster of pleasure! Those who liked DELTORA QUEST but not DELTORA SHADOWLANDS don't give up hope! This is another Rodda classic.
