You have no idea how long I have been searching for this book. I read it as a kid and lost it. I loved it. It's a great story, a little mystery, a little action, a little fun. I could not for the life of me remember the title, but I clearly remembered the "harrowing" scene where Angie and Jess are kidnapped and held hostage in a junkyard. I KNEW it was called _____ First Case and could not remember the girl's name - I thought it was Jamie forever. After a bit of Amazon Magic...here it is!! Made my day! Ordered immediately.

This is a great great book for young readers who like mysteries. It has a female heroine for the girls, a little action for the boys, and doesn't get too "dangerous" like the Hardy Boys Casefiles and isn't annoying like Nancy Drew. (sorry, I think she is).

Angie's older sister is a police officer, working hard to solve two crimes. First, a gang of teenagers is robbing homes in the area and there's also a ring of counterfeiters at work. Angie's goal is to solve one or both cases so her sister can get promoted to sergeant. She and her friend Jess patrol the neighborhood on the lookout for suspicious activity. They get more than they bargained for.
Sobol, author of the wildly popular Encyclopedia Brown books, tries his hand with a female heroine and a mystery that's longer than a chapter. He does marginally well with this venture, although young children reading this book might get in quite a bit more trouble than Angie does if they try to emulate her.

Angie Zane, the heroine of Donald J. Sobol's novel, takes Encyclopedia's brains one step further. In it, she gets involved in her sister's police case when she & and boyfriend are kidnapped. Along the way, her prowess in solving cases clearly shines through and unlike Encyclopedia, doesn't mind admitting that she solved it. Sobol's clear, concise style is great for young readers. Even though this book is a little more serious than what most Encyclopedia fans might be used to, this book actually sort of makes me wonder what would Encyclopedia be like if he'd stood up for himself more often? Overall it is a fantastic book and would be a great counterpoint companionship to any Encyclopedia Brown series book

This book is okay. Angie Zane, the main character thinks she is really smart, but she gets caught by the enemy 2 times. That doesn't really happen to detecives. Jess Berg, Angie's friend is a really fuuny character. My favorite part is when Angie and Jess are caught by the Wolf Gang. They get tied up, Blindfolded and gagged. Donald Sobol made this a really good book. A part in this book i thought was wierd is when Angie is tied up and gagged with dish towels. and she can't even untie herself. That is really pathetic. Remember, the parts of the book i wrote about in this review are not crucial to the plot. So you can still read the book and be suprised. Overall, this is a good book.
