The first volume of Duane Swierczynski's Godzilla series features the first four issues in the comic run, with art by Simon Gane. It covers the adventures of Boxer's mercenary task force, comprising of himself, Urv (explosion expert), Harrison (a mute racing driver) and Claire Plangman (gun touting military scientist and Boxer's ex) as they battle kaiju around the world. The concept is okay, with three of the issues being fairly good although the volume ends on a weak note with the last issue

With the latest trade release from IDW, we have Volume 1 of the new Godzilla ongoing simply called, Godzilla. This collects issues 1 to 4 with a bonus art gallery. IDW's writing team on the Godzilla series seems to be getting better with each mini-series. Though the main character feels eerily similar to the one in Kingdom of Monsters, the editing is much less jumpy and the writing more focused on a select few rather than dozens of unrelated characters who's only relation is experiencing attacks. The art leaves a bit to be desired on the human front, however the monsters and action involving them are absolutely fantastic. Godzilla is off to a tremendous start and Volume 1 left me eagerly waiting for Volume 2.

Godzilla and the other kaiju have cost a special group of hardcore merc's who band together to make money and get revenge; mainly revenge. Witness the "birth" of monster island and the beginning of a secret cabal who wants to control all the giant monsters including the King himself: Godzilla.

The retro style of art is eye catching. But doesn't Appeal to most. I liked the story and style but my brother hated the art. I think its worth the price

I found this book very fun to read. Not only because Godzilla is in it buy because it had awesome monster battles, spectacular characters, and an nice to be continued. the characters work well together. only problem with it is that they use the characters too much. There is a little too much of boxer and the other characters and there motives are a little too farfetched overall good story ,cool monster fights ,and it is extremely fun

After spending so much time with the emotional, cerebral, and largely convoluted plotting of the DC universe, I found this book to be one of the most exciting I've read in a long time thanks to its expertly-executed simplicity: monsters crush cities, people kill monsters. The author found a surprisingly effective way to make the human element interesting in a brand world that is ostensibly about watching enormous monsters destroy everything, and this succeeds for me because of the terse staccato narration and the gruff dialogue, both of which strike an excellent balance dead-center between too-serious and hammy. I also found the integration of social networking services into the brief man-on-the-street narratives to be effective. Lastly, the artwork is very lively and active, with thick quick strokes that, while lacking in sharp detail, makes up for it in accuracy and personality. Gonna follow this one to the end!
Plot? Pretty good. Dialog? Pretty average. Artwork? Pretty disappointing. Come on -- kaiju deserve depiction that's huge, majestic, and mind-blowing, not all scratchy low-res. I don't think I'll bother with any more from this team. Jeez, it's too bad Eric Powell is too busy to come back, even if only as writer.
