This book is packed with simple, mouth-watering dishes (many of which, while popular in today's health-oriented culture, were considered inexpensive "peasant food" back in the day) furnished by such celebrated Italian-American personalities as Danny Aiello, Robert Loggia, Chazz Palminteri, Frank "Frankie No" Pellegrino (who co-owns and manages Rao's in East Harlem), Sonny Grosso (one of the.

I am a proud Italian-American and this book "Shut Up and Eat" is as good as it gets. Ironically, I was born and raised in a town in western Penna. just a few miles from the birthplace of "The Lip" (Beaver Falls) In my family, Grandparents included, the term "Statta ziti, e Mangia" ( Shut up and Eat) was the watchword throughout my childhood. Not in the harsh tone one may think, but with love and tenderness, simply stating to not talk at the table and enjoy the food prepared for you.

Enjoy sumptuous dishes like Tony Lip's Stuffed Calamari, Lorriane Bracco's Stuffed Artichokes, James Gandolfini's Osso Buco, Edie Falco's Penne with Sweet Sausage, Danny Aiello's Tortellini in Brodo, Steven R. Schirripa's Shrimp Oreganato, Dominic Chianese's Cannoli Chianese. Schirripa's Shrimp Oreganato, Dominic Chianese's Cannoli Chianese, and many more.

A light, pleasant read, which I finished in one sitting. What I found even more entertaining than the cooking formulas provided were the anecdotes and personal recollections of those who furnished the recipes, just one great story after another. Tony Lip (who I'm sure many of you would recognize on the big screen even if you don't know the name) coauthored this collection with Steven Prigge. This book is packed with simple, mouth-watering dishes (many of which, while popular in today's health-oriented culture, were considered inexpensive "peasant food" back in the day) furnished by such celebrated Italian-American personalities as Danny Aiello, Robert Loggia, Chazz Palminteri, Frank "Frankie No" Pellegrino (who co-owns and manages Rao's in East Harlem), Sonny Grosso (one of the real-life detectives involved in the infamous "French Connection" case on which both the book and movie were based), James Gandolfini, Michael Imperioli and Dominic Chianese, to mention only a few. As an Italian-American myself, I can relate to the happy, spirited, boisterous family gatherings which took place on Sundays and holidays when I was growing up, a tradition that, unfortunately, seems to be waning. But even if you're not Italian, and would simply like to know what life was like among many immigrants and first-generation Americans not too many years ago, I think it's a good bet that you'll enjoy "Shut Up and Eat" as much as I did.

I am a fan of Mr. Lip so I purchased this to read, not to cook! However, the recipes are so awesome and easy to make so I got a bonus. I am a lazy "chef"; I want to make something delicious without worrying I'm not making it gourmet enough. What I loved about these recipes is that they are no stress, delicious, easy to make. And the anecdotes; they make you smile. A+, Mr. Lip!

Bought this for my son and he loves it! He's big fan of the Italian movie genre, so this really made a great gift. The recipes that he's tried and shared are wonderful!

This was a gift for my sister. We made a recipe together from the book after my sister had made a couple on her own.

We found it very enjoyable and the food came out very well.

You get hungry just reading the recipes in this book.
