In a world focused on youth, Susan Porter's book reminds us of the importance of our own adulthood. With encouragement, insight, and humor, her wisdom guides all of us who care about teenagers through the inevitable conflicts and joys of our work. She helps us remember that adolescents need the adults in their lives to provide boundaries, love, and support. Teachers of teenagers are often confused when dealing with adolescent behavior, and many are just as confused by their own behavior in reaction to students' idealism, enthusiasm, mood swings, and self-absorption.

Some of the material covered in the book would be "common sense" to most educators. However, the author does a good job pointing out other information that I never thought of before. There are many "case studies" to illustrate her points. The book is practical and very easy to read.

A solid look at the relationships that exist between the adult as educator and the adolescent as student. In clear terms, Dr. Porter outlines the needs that adolescents have and how adults can help inculcate their students with those skills that foster success in the adult world to come.
