Group retreats have always been an integral part of the Heart of Huna teachings and the unfolding of the understanding and reclaiming of the ancient wisdom. From 1989 through 2002 I facilitated group retreats I called Return to the Source on the island of Kauai. These retreats were an important part of bringing back the teachings, and I am very grateful to every individual who participated in these gatherings. At the present time I am not planning any group retreats of this nature.

If you are interested in a brief overview of HUNA that is an easy to understand volume that you can read in one or two sittings.
I appriciate Laura's tribute to the late Max Freedom Long.
This is NOT a HUNA handbook. For that I recommend "The Secret Science At Work", "Growing into Light" Max Freedom Long, or "Fundamentals Of Hawaiian Mysticism" Charlotte Berney.
The Long material is superior in my opinion.
Now I direct my comments to "The Grand Duke of Avram" a reviewer below. None are as blind as those that refuse to see.

Dr. Laura Kealoha Yardley comes from the heart of Hawaii, of Hawaiian heritage, and born and raised in Hawaii. She also has the unique perspective of a kumu (teacher) who has led many students to discover the wisdom of Hawaii and to work on a practical level with it. Her book presents a great overview into two of the prominent figures in the field of Hawaiian spirituality. Max F. Long's role has become controversial for its hybrid nature but his work has been enormously influential to generations of seekers. David K. Bray, or Daddy Bray, was a towering personage of Hawaii, a kahuna and a Living Treasure. For those who wish to learn and understand the teachings of both, this is an excellent source! Dr. Yardley's writing is clear, concise, and very readable.

This is a wonderful book. It is very well researched and guides the reader on a journey of personal reflection and understanding of both ancient and current practices of Huna. The author's personal experiences are woven together with teachings of ancient Hawaiian healing and the ways they are relevant today. Her connection with modern day healers and teachers brings relevancy and credibility to the teachings she offers in this book. It is accessible and enjoyable to read, and I learned information that I use daily in my life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in authentic teachings of Huna. It is written by a current day teacher and healer who was given teachings early in her life and whose continual study and learning is generously shared in this book.

ALTHOUGH "HUNA" IS NOT OFFICIALLY PART OF HAWAIIAN CULTURE, YARDLEY PROVIDES AN EXCELLENT AND VERY READABLE REVIEW OF THIS TOPIC. HER RESPECT AND EMPHASIS ON KAHUNA BRAY AND HIS KNOWLEDGE IS HEARTWARMING. THE USE OF A "SPIRITUAL GUIDE" IN HER WRITING REFLECTS A TRUE HAWAIIAN OR KAHUNA EXPERIENCE. NO OTHER BOOK ON THIS TOPIC SPECIFICALLY DOES THIS. I WAS IMPRESSED. AN ACADEMIC NATIVE HAWAIIAN WROTE THIS REVIEW.

The book promises a lot. It can easily be read in an evening. All it delivers is a lot of trite sayings that you could pick up in any essoteric book. It does not contribute 1 iota to the overall knowledge on Huna. The best thing in the book is the five pages of Bibliography at the end, because all she does is simply review others works. It is the standard of a research paper by a high school student which I would have difficulty in passing. Overall all I have purchased is an expensive bibliography which I did not need.
