Granted it's a really good book, when i received it in the mail, it had a "Chegg" sticker on it and it was TOW UP. The front cover looks like it needs to be taped up or something. The sticker is on the bottom left side and it looks like it's keeping the cover on! Overall, it's a much needed book for history. Make sure you tell "Amazon" if you receive THIS book! Needless to say, i can't stand HISTORY, but you need this book if you want to pass your class.

I'm really not enjoying this book. While I'm grateful to use it as a timeline to look up crucial events that occurred like battles or when certain documents were written, it is useful. It bores the reader, although it could be worse. It does not include everything it should regarding what actually happened--seems to disclude certain events or personality traits of founding fathers in favor of patriotism. By choosing to read this history text book, you could do worse. You could also do better.

I bought this book for two online courses I took in college. Although the book has many interesting pictures and topics, I was confused quickly. The biggest problem that this has is the lack of cohesive writing. Every paragraph feels like a completely separate piece of information, and the transition between paragraphs is weak and uninteresting. Another problem is how topics are placed. This book doesn't follow a chronological order. Every paragraph will throw a different date at you, and you will be swinging between completely unchronological dates.

It might be an interesting book for a recreational reading season, but for a history class, it was indeed a terrible choice.

I was required to buy this book for school. The text book itself is alright. I don't like revel, the online website. I was required to have that as well. The book arrived and was as I expected it to be.

This American History book is a very good, but not excellent coverage of the History of the United States. The book is typical entry level college material. Historical information is either very interesting with good detail to boring and vague. Photographs, portraits, paintings, charts, and illustrations are abundant and beautiful helping to keep interest level moving. However, the book rapidly sheds its allure and interest. That is because it fails to deliver on providing enough, interesting and neccessary political and war detail maps associated with important major historical events.

A history book with only a few maps in my opinion can not be recommended. Maps provide important visual political and geographical illustrative information that words alone can not. Previous editions of this textbook included enough maps to statisfy the reader. And the maps are still available, but the reader has to enroll, for additional cost, into an internet online service called " [...]" to access the maps. The textbook is already way overpriced at $96.00 dollars. The textbook is a beautiful hardcover with over 900 pages, but most of the information was compliled 40 years ago with frequent updating editions to the present year. no wonder this adds to why the cost of college education is soaring.

The authors receive commendation for a generally well organized book covering over 400 years of complex historical information. However, as historians they sold out on the students of history by not supplying all the information needed (the maps!).

Even so this history textbook is one of the better ones available. However, if maps are important to you. You will be disappointed.
disappointed it is just paper with punch holes in it...have to put it in a binder....for 60+ dollars it should be a bound book.
