The fourth edition of "The World Since 1945" moves beyond the demise of the Soviet Union into the uncertain post-Cold War age - the chaotic "new world order". The text has been updated to discuss issues at the forefront of world politics today: the changing character of the European Union, events in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, the movement toward resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the new order in South Africa, the sharpening of the economic and political conflict between the United States and its trading partners in East Asia, and the unresolved disputes between North and South Korea and the two Chinas. There are also interpretive revisions based on new documents and studies of the Cold War, the Middle East conflicts, the nuclear arms race (including the Cuban missile crisis) and events in Afghanistan, El Salvador and India. Comprehensive, yet concise, this study of the major political, economic and ideological patterns in the global arena since World War II - written for introductory courses in international relations or world history - serves as a corrective to often one-sided, Western-centred approaches to the salient issues of recent decades.

Wayne C. McWilliams is emeritus professor and Harry Piotrowski is professor in the Department of History at Towson University. Product was a bit overpriced, in my opinion, but definitely cheaper than the schools bookstore. As for the textbook, I admittedly did not use it much during the course until I NEEDED it for a final project/paper. It really came through in the clutch for me, after being a paperweight most of the semester. As an average "C" student I was able to earn a "B" on my final paper and even earned a "B" in the class.

Nearly seventy years after the end of World War II, the world grappled with challenges very much different from those it faced in previous decades. Well written and interesting. History textbooks can be pretty dry but this one is good. I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a good world history primer.

this great book is for sale for much less directly from the publisher. use the isbn, not the amazon product number. this is an overpriced con entry.
Overall, a good explanation of world history from the mid-Twentieth Century to the present. However when it comes to US presidents and their administrations, the political opinions of the authors are very apparent, which is something I consider to be an example of professional malpractice. The Democrats are consistently projected as American heroes, and when mentioning their mistakes cannot be avoided, excuses are made for them. Whereas to the contrast, Republican presidents are consistently projected as terrible villains. As someone who is politically independent, I find this to be a form of attempted indoctrination. This greatly discredits the authors. I want material to be taught straight down the middle as much as humanly possible. I would be just as upset if this were written with a strong Republican slant.
