Book by Newman, Donald

on the contrary to most subject related exam preparation book, this one actually includes very consice subject .

I passed, so I can't complain.

Dilworth 3) Best Test Preparation for the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam by Nesar U. Ahmed 4) Fundamentals of Engineering: FE Exam Preparation by Donald G Newnan. I found the book by Lindeburg to be the most comprehensive. Other books can be used as supplements, but in all honestly you really just need to understand the basics of the subjects (and the main topics in those subjects). Some of the other books get really detailed problems that frankly I never encountered on the FE exam.

I think it is a good book at directing you through the material on the exam. On some applications it provides very good explanations and examples and on others it is largely theoretical. Since I haven't taken the exam yet, I'm not sure if this is a positive or negative attribute.

Talk about Civil Engineering: FE Exam Preparation

I bought this to study for the CE portion of the EIT. I believe I got the general version and the CE specific. I also got the FE manual with the equations in it. The review exercises were helpful and the content subjects and question types were pretty much the same as the FE exam itself. I passed obviously.
However, I must say, if you're taking the text, make sure that you study with the FE manual that has the equations. When you're taking a test and you don't know where specific equations are, it takes away from time you could spend on harder questions. Get familiar with the manual.
on the contrary to most subject related exam preparation book, this one actually includes very consice subject review then solved problems.
I felt this book was a good review for the CE portion of the FE exam. It would be a little thicker with more sample problems, but for the size it was great. I passed, so I can't complain.
It discusses in detail obvious stuff, and then references you to textbooks for more advanced topics. So it is more of a basic reference for the things you practice everyday, than a way to help you remember the topics you did during your undergrad degree
I got this book last week and I've only worked through the second chapter but I've already found 4 mistakes. Grammatical mistakes I can handle but what I've come across are technical mistakes, units - poorly photocopied diagrams, mislabeled examples, that I cannot handle. If you're the publisher or one of the contributors reading this review you should be ashamed of yourself. Save your money, stick to Michael R. Lindeburg.
Why this book is not worth buying:

1.) The equations in the book does not match up with the equations used in the FE Supplied Reference book provided by NCEES during the FE exam so it's frustrating to study two sets of equations (with different units) for the same material. It's
inconvenient and time consuming.

2.) Each chapter has a tiny review section that supplies equations and a few examples (if examples are provided) then users can try the practice problems at the end. The problem is that the review is VERY basic and hardly skims the surface of the subject matter therefore it is not enough for a thorough review of the subject. This means, I have to grab out my old textbooks and look up each topic and review from them if I still own the textbook.

3.) Not as organized when compared to the FE Review Manual from Lindeburg (I use the FE Review Manual to study for the morning portion of the FE).

All and all, not worth buying.
Talk about a big disappointment.I was expecting a book that would really help me prepare for the civil discipline specific portion of the EIT exam. Unfortunately this book only skims the top of major topics and does not go into any sort of detail whatsoever. It's not a complete book, i think it miss more than 50% of the course. My suggestion would be to leave this book alone and study from reference text books.
Feels like a slapped together attempt to make some money. No survey review. Most of the reviews are very confusing. The hydrology review is just a couple questions with manning's and Hazen equations. The review questions don't have real explained solutions. Don't waste time with this book, find something else.
