This second edition deals comprehensively with all aspects of a ship's machinery from propulsion and steering to deck machinery and electrical equipment with a strong emphasis upon correct and safe procedures.Material has been added and revised to reflect the greater weight now being placed upon the cost-effective operation of ships; in terms of greater equipment reliability, more fuel-efficient engines, the ever-increasing shift towards automatically operated machinery, and the need for fewer engineering crew. This is an invaluable guide for professionals but equally covers the requirements for Class 4 and Class 3 Engineer's Certificates of Competency, the first two years of the Engineer Cadet Training Scheme, and the Engineering Knowledge syllabus for the Master's Certificate.

Was in better condition than listed. Hardly any markings inside. No missing pages. Glad to have finally tracked this book down for a good price

Can't say I enjoyed this book one bit. In fact, I resented it most of the time, due to my crazy teacher contradicting it all the time after, of course, telling me that the answers to all my questions could be found in this book! Anyway, aside from my professor's ridiculous antics if you need this book, than fine get it here. I had no problems with the shipping or the seller and though I have no idea why I have this book, it is indeed a hassle free purchase (I can't guarantee anything after the purchase however).

This book have to be updated with the new technologies. I do not recommend it! It will be useless to me!

This book on ship design and engineering is an outstanding work! I was visiting a friend of mine who is a retired designer, having worked in Gibbs & Cox (one of America's most respected naval architect and engineering firms)for many years, and came across this book in his personal library. BLEW MY MIND! This is practically THE bible of marine engineering--it covers all ships' systems, from propulsion, to powerplant, to electrical systems, you name it! Illustrations and diagrams supplement the text. I was so taken aback I have added this book to my wishlist and will indeed purchase it in due time! Highly recommend to anyone interested in naval engineering or ships in general!

A must have for every cadet and junior marine engineers..????????
