Cowboy Feng's Space Bar and Grille is a great place to visit, but it tends to move around a bit. From Earth to the Moon to Mars to another solar system, it is always just one step ahead of whatever mysterious conspiracy is reducing whole worlds to radioactive ash. And Cowboy Feng's may be humanity's last hope for survival. Original.

If Brust had just written a book about these people in a bar getting in over their heads with someone else in town, it would have felt more grounded, or if he hadn't made these characters so damn likable, it would have worked better as a space bar adventure. This though, it bounces in tone strangely; a book with a title like this probably shouldn't be as serious as Cowboy Feng's wound up.

I was a bit hesitant because while I love Brusts writing, he does write in different styles sometimes and I read a quote where he said he did not feel this was one of his best works. Well - no need to be hesitant friends. Apparantly a novel that is not one of Brust's best is still heads and tales above a lot out there. Great standalone story. Enjoyed in thoroughly. Highly recommended to anyone who is a fan of the author or anyone a fan of old school sci fi, such as Heinlein.

The first half of the book was boring, I didn't like any of the characters, and I found some things to be lazy writing like "But I won't go into those details" or "because that didn't change over time." It had an original premise but was not executed well.

I would have enjoyed this book more if I did not go in thinking it was a comedy. It may have some funny moments but it’s not a funny book. It’s not a bad book, just not what I was expecting.

Poorly written

I've read every book I could by Steven Brust and this is one of my favorites. The taltos series was fantastic but this is one of the most imaginative works of art he's written in my opinion it's a modern masterpiece highly highly recommend it....

to read a book twice in immediate succession, but that is what I'm doing here. I am an avid reader, and usually I can guess the plot and ending by about a third of the way through most books. Not this one. And even more unusual, I am now reading it through a 2nd time to catch all the nuances I missed the first time.... that knowing the end now makes things clearer. I will definitely read more from this author!

I laughed I cried it changed my life. funny, sad, and memorable. his use of the intermezzo for defining the characters while building the story was inspired. Steven's best stand alone.
