Strong Enough to Die" - written by Jon Land and published in 2009 by Forge, a trademark of Tim Doherty Associates. Caitlin Strong is a Texas Ranger, following in the footsteps of her father and grandfather, and in addition to this book being a solid mystery/thriller, it's also an ode to this proud group of protectors. Strong Enough To Die comes at you with a gunfight on the first page, has lots of gunfights throughout and ends up with guns and explosions as well. I think if I had read this Caitlin Strong book first, I wouldn't bother reading another one. The characters are like something out of a movie or even cartoon - very one-dimensional.

I asked one of my men to bring it to me out here, Sandoval told her. He never showed up. I just realized. Must’ve lost myself in that story I was telling yo.He tried to muster a smile and failed. It could be nothing, I suppose.

A very pleasant surprise. So many authors try to impersonate the 'Jack Reacher' genre and so many fail = not from the depiction of the 'hero' but rather from the ability to build a cogent story around the particular plot being played out.
Now...along comes a 'heroine' who has the same kick ass approach but has everyday issues and troubling connections. There is hidden depth in the flesh of this Lady and the whole approach of the story which lifts it beyond the mundane majority.
I appreciate and respect the writer's wish to 'draw down' on the entire legacy of the Texas Rangers - and it is critical to the story line, but my one criticism of this book is the creeping historical crossover to the past where 'fingers itching over the trigger' is relayed as the main approach, but we all know that, given huge ethos and personality aside, the current Texas Ranger would be slightly more circumspect in approach, but dedication to the cause would remain above reproach. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. On the basis of the first book, there is much to look forward to.

Caitlin Strong decides that she has enough being a Texas Ranger and she applies for a job at a rehab center to help people that have problems. She is introduced to a man who has no idea who he is and is startled when she realizes that it is her missing husband. She does not say anything because he does not recognize her.. Meanwhile Cort Wesley Masters, who she put in prison and has recently found out he was framed, is looking for her to kill her. He eventually saves her life and her husbands and the adventure begins. The story takes so many turns, this book is hard to put down. Jon Land did it again. A page turner to be sure!

I just found a new favorite series and author. The new hero is a tough, complex and at times tormented female Texas Ranger. The history of the Rangers is interwoven into the several subplots that are wove into a thrilling story, a real page turner. While violence is a part of this novel, it is not blood red violence, nor scary violence, nor violence for its own sake. I've already read # 2 of this series and am looking forward to the remainder of the series.

...extends as far as he can ride his horse. Caitlin Strong, on extended leave from the Texas Rangers, takes a job at a special rehab center treating victims of torture. She is surprised when she finds herself dealing with a patient who is out of her past, someone who is supposed to be dead. Evil things are happening, and Caitlin finds herself up against a defense contractor who has gone rogue. She finds some surprising allies, two very dangerous individuals. There are blazing guns and people going down, good and bad, and the fallout is going to be extensive.

What goes around comes around. If you associate with mad dogs you can be bitten.

Terrific action/adventure story. Read some nits about stilted dialogue, but if you really look at the two main characters, they are both clearly people of few words trying to figure a lot of things out. I liked Caitlyn Strong as the strong heroine mostly on the right side of the law and Cort Wesley Masters as the anti-hero a little bit on the side of the law. Very interesting pairing. Look forward to the rest of the series.

I understand that this was the author's first novel in the Caitlin Strong series, so I will temper my comments. The novel was well-written, but too-long on drama and too-short on action. I struggled to get through the book, forcing myself to read a few chapters at a time.

The characters were well-developed, but there was too-little payoff at the end.

I don't know if I will bother reading any of the later books in the this series, but am not sorry I read this one.

Don't waste your time! The conversations with left out words are not good. Everyone sounds the same. The plot was unbelievable. Caitlin is so one dimensional, as were all the other characters. The ending was good, very dramatic, but the rest of it, not so much.
I have been a Jon Land fan since Brotherhood of the Rose. While Land reinvents himself periodically with the introduction of new characters and locales, his books are always entertaining. And, Strong Enough to Die is no exception. This was my first Kindle book and I read it in one day. I love the characters and, as a Texan myself, I love the Ranger background and the setting. I highly recommend this and other Land books if you're interested in a thrilling read with well-developed characters. Can't wait to read Stong Justice!
