This book reminds me of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes by Anita Loos. Our heroine is a mix of wise and naive.
Apparently Tom Powers was a real person, not just a pen name, and he was both a writer and an actor. His brief bio in the book says he appeared in Double Indemnity.
At $3.99 it's a good deal. If you like post-war light fiction, I recommend it as a good bet.

Read this for the first time many years ago. One of the most funny books ever! I wish there was a movie about it!
