Scholefield was one of a group of journalists and writers who left South Africa in the sixties to escape the rigid apartheid of the Prime Minister, Dr. Verwoerd. With his first wife Patricia, he lived in Spain writing short stories for America, Canada and London. Alan Scholefield was born in 1931 in Cape Town, South Africa. After leaving university he became a journalist and travelled widely in southern and central Africa, Europe, and America. He now lives in Hampshire with his wife and has three daughters.
