When Nattie Gold's boss at The Charlotte Commercial Appeal orders her to find a local horse whisperer to interview, she knows just the person: yellow-haired New Age belle Sarah Jane Lowell. Unfortunately, before Nattie can set up a meeting, Sarah Jane vanishes along with her newfound friend: Nattie's eccentric father. Suspiciously, their sudden disappearance coincides with the brutal murder of Fuzzy McMahon, whose bludgeoned body was found at the very stable where Nattie was supposed to meet Sarah Jane. Who would stoop to such a bloody act of violence? Nattie's splitting her money between a few front-runners--Sarah Jane and her own father included. . . .

A sophisticated tale of reckless romance and irretrievable violence, In Cold Blood goes beyond murder to explore the mysteries of fear, love, lust, and hate.

She not only talks to them, she hears what they answer.

I worked on the new packaging for IN COLT BLOOD by Jody Jaffe. Her writing is really upbeat, the characters are funny and well-rounded

I worked on the new packaging for IN COLT BLOOD by Jody Jaffe. Her writing is really upbeat, the characters are funny and well-rounded. Anyway, her covers needed to be bright and handsome.

In Cold Blood is a non-fiction novel by American author Truman Capote, first published in 1966; it details the 1959 murders of four members of the Herbert Clutter family in the small farming community of Holcomb, Kansas. Capote learned of the quadruple murder before the killers were captured, and he traveled to Kansas to write about the crime.

Jody Jaffe's books are awesome and Chestnut Mare, Beware is one of the best. The story is a good one, fast paced, excellent dialoge, but what really does it for me is the accurate horse world descriptions. Very few writers get it all right, and Jaffe is one of them

I haven't read this one yet as my grand daughter grabbed it quickly to read over the Christmas and New years break from school.

Wealthy Fuzzy McMahon owns her own prestigious stable, wears designer clothing and jewelry, and drives luxurious automobiles. However, in spite of her opulent lifestyle, Fuzzy is unhappy. Instead, she is a mean spirited individual, who takes her anger and frustrations out on anyone who happens to be in her vicinity. No one is shocked when the despised Fuzzy is murdered and left in a pile of horse manure.
Normally, Natalie Gold, who has been involved with a few murder investigations, would never be involved with the McMahon case. However, the prime suspect, horse communicator Sarah Jane Lowell has disappeared along with Natalie's father, who adores the woman. Natalie soon discovers that Sarah Jane is a top rate gifter, who has numerous aliases and many arrests. Natalie is determined to find her father before he can get into any more trouble. At the same time, Natalie wants to protect Fuzzy's adolescent daughter, who has stolen a piece of her heart, from any harm.
Jody Jaffe always provides an entertaining mystery and her latest book, IN COLT BLOOD, is no exception to that ironclad rule. Ms. Jaffe adds an interesting subplot involving what it is like being a Jew living in the south, which is handled with an accurate perspective, as well asbeing nonjudgemental . As usual, the culprit is quite a surprise. It is refreshing to read a story where justice is tempered with mercy. The female protagonist's moral dilemma is easy for readers to identify with even if some will not agree with her decision. This winning book deserves award recognition.

How I wish Jody Jaffe would continue her series with Natty Gold, the Charlotte, NC, fashion writer who is an amateur sleuth and show rider. The characters are well defined, the horse show knowledge is unsurpassed and the mysteries are believable, taking place in accurately-researched settings. Interestingly, the killers in all three books are female, proving that women are up to the task of evil too. In this book, I have a slight nit to pick, and hate to even suggest anything but a 'clear round.' However, the loose ends nagged at me: Natty's Asheville, NC, hotel room is trashed, while the real culprit is more than three hours away from the scene at the time and no other potential trashers are in evidence. Then in the same chapter, Nattie is at an outdoor wedding, also in Asheville, where she is shot at, yes real bullets go whizzing by her head. Again, the real culprit is miles away, and no one else with motive, real or imagined, is anywhere nearby. In both instances, Natty simply goes on and never refers to either incident again, at all. Nerves of steel maybe, but for one so curious, she spends no time trying to find out who wanted her scared, dead or both. Neither event is resolved in any way. I am assuming Ms Jaffe's editors did her no favors in this chapter and did not bother to read before or ahead for the sake of sense. But I still hope Ms Jaffe will revive the series. Three books should be just the beginning!

I've read two of her three books and have been looking for this one to buy (In Colt Blood) because she's fantastic! I wish she would write more; I'd buy them all. I've read several other authors of this genre, and Jody is by far the best. They go deeper than a lot of mysteries and she has a great sense of humor, plus her characters are well written and real. What more could you ask for?

I love Jody's books. And they get better and better! I am at the point now where I ration out each chapter so I do not finish the book too soon. Jody has the horse world society nailed. Anyone who is a horse person will say: Is she spying on me or what? Bring on the next book, please! (and put more chapters in it)

This whole series is GREAT! When does the next one come out? I hope they're not yearly. This is the only adult series I know of that is about the hunter/jumper world. Keep 'em coming!

Jody has again produced a delightful tale. Her characters are interesting and three dimensional. The story she tells keeps me turning pages and staying up too late at night because I can't put the book down. Great job Jody! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery, especially if they have any connections to, or a love for horses.
In Colt Blood is the latest of the Nattie Gold mysteries. I absolutely love Jody Jaffe's books. Every frustrated horseperson out there should read them. If you are trying to make it in the equestrian world and are tired of the rich people, definitely read In Colt Blood. It will make you laugh!
