Frank wrote his first story-it was a western-when he was five. It was really awful, as might be expected, but his mother kept that typed and spell-checked short story tucked away until the day she died. As a journalist, the Colorado Press Association awarded Frank their highest award, the Sweepstakes Award, for the best news story of 1980, and the Western Writers of America has twice named Frank recipient of their prestigious Spur Award. Frank passed away at age 73 in December 2015.

This sequel to Leaving Kansas continues the misadventures of Harrison Wilke, an unlikely hero who is a green kid fumbling his way to manhood in the Old West-if his mistakes don't get him killed first. This story has covered about all the good features of characters in the old west, however the aspects of being mistaken for a thief make this a most interesting story.

I love this author, dislike Harrison Wilke. But I like redemption stories, so I read the second in the trilogy. Wilke's character had softened, but the softness crept into his brain and turned it to oatmeal. No one is this stupid. You can "see the light" and it will change your character. Stupid is stupid. Don't care what happens to Wilke now, won't read the 3rd book. Sorry Frank. I have ordered 4 of your other books, so I still love your work!

I really enjoyed reading the second book in the Wilke Trilogy. In the first book I couldn't stand Harrison Wilke. In this book, after screwing everything up at home, finds him on his own. The story finds Harrison walking his way to Colorado and as he walks, he learns many facts of life. He still gets into trouble by thinking to much without thinking but the story really touches your heart. Harrison shows a great deal of Harrison's character. Good book.

GOOD BOOK AND GREAT READING

I started to mark this book lower, primarily due to my dislike of the obnoxious main character. Then I realized that Frank has done a wonderful job of stirring the reader's emotions.

You can't put it down. When you come to the end of a chapter, Frank just gets you wondering what is going to happen next. I guess I will have to buy the 3rd book of this trilogy.

Harrison Wilks is the type of guy that can always put 2&2 together and get 300 or whatever. His misadventures just get curiouser and curiouser as he blunders along.
Didn't care much for Harrison in Leaving Kansas and like him even less after Reaching Colorado. Getting to read Finding Nevada to see if he can ever straighten out his life, he seems to be a lifelong screw-up. Please prove me wrong in Nevada! I'm sure there were actually men like him in the old west but I prefer stories about admiral men not goof balls.
