Years after their marriage collapses, Buck White splurges on Irene’s coffin. She was found floating in a cypress swamp behind a Seminole village, her beauty marred by sadistic violence, a guitar string buried so deep in her neck that it takes two autopsies to dig it out. Sheriff White knows neither the time nor place of death, but the savaged corpse tells him to look for a serial killer: white, under forty, antisocial, and with a fondness for liquor.

I was debating giving 3 or 4 stars. If I could give 3.5 I would. This was my first Koenig book and I think it is his first book. I found it fairly typical of the genre. It was an ok read, but I was underwhelmed. The writing style was fine, I suppose I would put it in the Elmore Leonard style, I liked the next Koenig book that I read a little better (Little Odessa).

Nothing about this search for a serial killer interested me.

well written. great characters with a sociopath to give you chills. i thought the protagonist was very engaging and i would like to know more about him and his kids. the procedural part was interesting to follow. the hard-bitten humor was great, in my opinion. highly recommended by me.
