Partly I felt the lack of Cadell's usually funny eccentrics, everyone felt like they were at a distance, especially the bad guys.

Partly I felt the lack of Cadell's usually funny eccentrics, everyone felt like they were at a distance, especially the bad guys. I liked George and Stella, the middle aged main characters. They were the sort of quiet and "well bred" people Cadell specialises in. The young couples, there are two, a working class and a middle class one, are also engaging and well behaved. But the extras that usually give these books their spark never come to life.

Elizabeth Violet Cadell (née Vandyke) (10 November 1903 – 9 October 1989) was a 20th-century British writer. Born and raised in Calcutta, she was educated in England. In 1928, she married H. D. R. M. Cadell; they had two children. She spent her last years in Portugal. Cadell sometimes used the pseudonym, Harriet Ainsworth.

I had never heard of this author but when I saw what some of her books were fetching price wise, I decided that this might be worth reading. If you like action, modern day fiction, this is not for you but if you love reading some of the old books written when the world was a different place, then you will like her stories. I would highly recommend it for the same person who loves old b/w movies. :)

Why oh why doesn't a publishing company do what they did with Georgette Heyer's books and reprint all of the Elizabeth Cadell novels?! I have purchased all of the out of print copies that I can afford but there are still so many that I cannot buy. Please!!
