The premise of this book is a bit difficult to believe. The main character's wife dies on their honeymoon in a freak landslide in South America. A few days after her death, while in mourning in South America, he wakes up next to a beautiful seventeen year old that he kind of remembers sleeping with. They immediately marry, as she is a virgin and could be pregnant. Isabella, his new wife, is running away from an arranged marriage orchestrated by her wealthy parents.

I was put off by the age of the heroine. Seventeen is very young. I might have been able to move past it if the hero was closer in age but he was 26. Isabella acts like a 17 year old in this marriage. When this couple moves back to Canada she is petulant and spoiled. Her husband is still in mourning and really wants very little to do with her. This is totally understandable. He just lost his wife of six days.

Isabella is desperate to win his love and engages in all kinds of juvenile behavior like outrageous flirting with the neighbor and not so subtle seduction scenes. These scenes are difficult to read as I could never get past the fact that she was a teenager. Seventeen in a contemporary romance feels very different than seventeen in a historical novel.

The story jumps forward five years. Isabella leaves her husband to find her way and comes crashing back into his life with secrets. Neither one of the characters seemed to like much less truly love each other. Both were moody and Isabella never grew beyond her years.

I enjoyed this book despite the low rating I gave it. It was a good try. The characters are believable if not a bit overdone. The plot is understandable and easy to follow however this book lacks excitement of any sort. It's a neutral read throughout the whole book. This made it sort of dull in some places. It is worth reading but don't expect much.
