I really enjoyed this book. It is the 5th book in a series, but read as a standalone. This was the first book I read from the series, and I didn't feel lost. I may go and read other books from this series, since this book was so good.

Wyatt Ledger will never forget the day he found his mother's body as a young boy. He grew up and became a detective. He finished up his last case, and turned in his notice. He moved back home. His dad had been found guilty for the murder of his mother, and had served time. Wyatt moved home to find out if his dad was the real killer, or to find the person that killed his mother.

On his way home he stopped at a cafe to wait out a storm, and that is when he meet Kelly, and her daughter. Take about bad luck. If it wasn't for bad luck, Kelly wouldn't have any luck at all. She too was moving back to the same small town that Wyatt was moving too. She had everything set, to move into her grandmother's house that she inherited. She has not seen the house in a very long time. She has been paying someone to keep it up. Kelly has everything she needs packed into her car, to camp out in the house for the night. The movers are set to deliver everything the next day. She is frustrated that she is running behind schedule. Kelly has already had car trouble. Now she is forced to stop at a cafe to wait out a storm. When the storm slows down, she is ready to get back on the road. That is when she finds that the creepy guy that had been staring at her, and her daughter had stolen her car. After the police report was filled, Wyatt offered to take her to the local hotel. Just happens that a gun show was happening in the small town, and all the rooms were already booked. Wyatt took her to her grandmother's house. That is when she finds a tree had falling and crashed through her ceiling. The home she and her daughter were moving into was now unlivable. She was prepared for a few lose shingles, and to fix small projects that needed done. Kelly however was not prepared for this. I know I wouldn't be prepared for that either. I loved the way Wyatt just held her, and let her cry out her frustrations. Wyatt too Kelly and her daughter to his family ranch. As much as his family has gone through, I loved how close this family was. They watched out for one another, and helped each other. Wyatt's family all came together to help Kelly. The person that took her car, started stalking her. Wyatt may have turned in his badge, but he will always be a detective at heart. Now it seems, he has two cases to solve.

I loved the suspense of the story. The conclusion blew me away. I never expected it. great story.

There were several mistakes of putting the wrong persons name into sentences. This book should really go back to the editor and be read a bit more carefully. But I am not a picky person, and I dont base my scores on typos.

This was a good book to end the series with. I enjoyed it.

This is the last book in Joanna's Sons of Troy Ledger series and we finally find out who killed Helena Ledger and why but not until the last thirteen pages. We get some really good hints before that but don't know for sure or why until then. The book is fast paced and has some red-herrings in it before the truth comes out. This is another of my "can't put it down until the end" books.

Wyatt Ledger is the last of Troy's sons to return to the family ranch after they were separated when their father went to prison for having killed his wife. Wyatt still believes his father could be guilty of the murder but as the story goes along he begins to believe in his father's innocence. Wyatt is an ex-lawman and as he is headed home he meets the heroine and her daughter one dark and stormy night when they both are forced by the weather to stop at a truck stop.

Kelly Burger has inherited her grandmother's home in Mustang Run and she has decided to move there and start a new life with her daughter. Only it's not as easy as it seems. First the stormy weather has her trapped at the same truck stop as Wyatt only somebody steals her car leaving her and her daughter stranded. Wyatt offers to take her to the nearest town and get her a hotel room for the night only to find there are none available. When he learns she is headed for the same place as he is he offers to take her there and drop her off at her grandmother's house only to find it roofless thanks to a large branch that fell on the roof. So Kelly and her daughter end up on the Ledger ranch.
