Sex was the nectar that bound them, sticky-sweet and addictive, as addictive as the thrill of the con that drew them together. It was a dangerous game they played. But danger, living on the edge, was who they were, who they’d become-by choice and by circumstance. For ten years, all of that had been enough.

This is my first full novel by Donna Hill. Guilty Pleasures was a very enjoyable read. Suspense, deceit, love, trust, secrets, adorned with cunning, manipulative characters make for a thrilling ride.

I was riveted to my seat. A real page turner. I had a hard time putting this down. At first I didn't like either one of them but eventually they all became very human to me and I found myself rooting for them even though they were essentially the "bad" guys. I loved the love story of course as only Donna Hill can deliver. It was good to see the appropriate people get what they had coming in the end. The bad guys were bad but the real villains were terrible!! Another hit. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Jake and Eva Kelly present the perfect façade from the outside looking in. Both have promising careers, live comfortably, but there are two sides to every coin. It's definitely a family affair as their crew includes Jake's brother, Jinx, and Eva's cousin, Rita. The foursome have pulled off many capers unscathed and have mastered the skills of illegal curriculum 101. They have taken the game to an all new level and seemingly have it down to a science. Then Eva gets emotional and invites uncertainty into the plan. Things heat up when their latest seemingly clueless mark, has ties to the FBI. Their skills are put to the test when they are blackmailed into scamming an international murderer. When the rabbit has the gun, who's gonna end up having the most fun...the predator or the prey? Who's gaming who? Chess or Checkers? Life or Death?

Super-sexy couple Jake and Eva Kelly are living life to the fullest. Upstanding and law-abiding by day in their jobs in the fashion and luxury car industry, by night is a whole different story. They are con artists and though they met on individual cons, they're now married and continue their cons as a couple. Eva, however, is tired of the game and wants to settle down for real and have a family. Jake convinces her to perform one last job, not knowing that the mark is actually the husband of an FBI agent. A pissed off one at that. She is clawing her way to the top, but has already decided that she's going to make it there, no matter what she has to do. She flips the script on Eva and Jake, and blackmails them into what will become their biggest heist ever; stealing from a South American druglord.

Eva and Jake call in the assistance of Jake's brother (a hacker) and Eva's cousin Rita (a forger/seamstress extraordinaire). With their individual and combined talents, they set a master plan which will either make them very very rich or very very dead.

GUILTY PLEASURES reminded me of several movies I've seen in past years, in the vein of Mission Impossible and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, complete with an on-the-edge-of-your-seat plot, sexy characters with believable flaws, and the thrill of the chase. While I enjoyed the read for the most part, too much was left hanging and I simply couldn't see how the main characters got to the end point. Their journey there, however, was exciting and thrilling, yet unbelievable in a few places. The characters, though not too high in the ethics department were fun and sexy, and the reader can't help but root for them. I also enjoyed the bonus of their background/past issues which threatened to not only destroy their relationships, but cost them their safety. I only wish that Hill had not left so many questions unanswered once again, as did her previous title Getting Hers, setting the reader up for a sequel.

I enjoyed this book and read through it rapidly wanting to find out how it ended. It was somewhat suspenseful especially after Suarez entered the picture. I rooted for Jake and Eva throughout and did not think that Rita and Jinx were well matched because their beliefs and value systems were so different. I like the twists and turns because you're lead to think Eva had to worry about her boss finding out what she was doing when actually it was something quite different. This is the second book by Donna Hill that I have read. I would recommend it for light reading as it's not overly graphic in sexuality or in violence.
