Mark Girouard has hit another home run with this book. The Queen Anne movement can be extremely perplexing as it was exceedingly complex in both its sources and its manifestations, both in the United States and in Great Britain. For decades it was either ignored or dismissed as utter rubbish. This book snatches the movement from the dustbin of architectural history and sheds much light (as well as sweetness) on it. Its primary focus is on its development in England with cursory comments regarding its development in the United States. The differences between the two are immense to the point that later developments almost make them seem to be two unrelated styles. The book is scholarly, but written in an accessible style with excellent black-and-white photographs and illustrations.

This title arrived quickly, exactly as described by the seller. I own many of this author's works and this one is an erudite, well-researched, well-written history - and an enjoyable read. I highly recommend this title (and others by Mark Girouard) to anyone interested in English (and American) architectural and cultural history.

This is the indispensable guide to the late nineteenth-century 'Queen Anne' movement in England. The copy I received was in very good condition, as advertised.

This book is about the Queen Anne movement in England. Their houses were of brick and lacked all the charm of American Victorian architecture. It had few pictures and then not of a desirable style. This book was a complete disappointment.
