A book of Fireball Crosswords? Oh, no, what a terrible idea. Brian Cimmet, Lollapuzzoola co-director I like my puzzles devilishly hard. I need to have a week or two in between these puzzles, or else I'd be unable to get anything else done-they're that addictive. Readers, hear me: Ration yourselves! -Jon Delfin, seven-time American Crossword Puzzle Tournament champion Peter Gordon has a remarkable talent for tough (sometimes very tough) but fair cluing. The TUESDAY book was not challenging enough. This WEDNESDAY book is impossible to solve ... and I am NOT a novice puzzle solver. I purposely did not jump to a FRIDAY book because I know the levels of difficulty go up the scale from MONDAY to FRIDAY. However, there is a HUGE difference in puzzle difficulty between the TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY puzzle books. This WEDNESDAY book is more suited to a FRIDAY title.
Only done about 10 so far, but an excellent mix of difficulties which average to what I consider a Wednesday puzzle. Some are a bit easier and some a bit more difficult than what I might have expected, but I am enjoying that mix. Format is slightly larger than average for a weekday puzzle book, but not excessively so and with a good quality presentation.
I love these crossword books, because the quality of the paper is excellent. There is a certain luxurious feeling when doing a puzzle on quality paper. The puzzles are consistently the level indicated by the title.
This series of Wednesday puzzles are easy enough to finish in a sitting, but challenging enough to be worth the effort. Clever clues and interesting themes make this series fun.
The puzzles are a little harder than I expected. I almost always have to cheat.
Loved it. Want the next one

The minute a crossword book starts using pictures instead of letters inside a puzzle--especially without any sort of hint!--it gets a one-start rating. Most of the puzzles are otherwise good but with so many you have to look up the answers for to get these clues, it's a waste of money and time.
My husband and I work one of these every evening and are enjoying the mid-level challenge at the end of a full day. It's the perfect level challenge for us. Fun titles hint at the hidden messages!
