With THE SOLDIER in its possession, Angel can initiate a war that will make the previous battles between the Polity and Prador look like child's play

In The Soldier, British science fiction writer Neal Asher kicks off another Polity-based trilogy in signature fashion, concocting a mind-melting plot filled with far-future technology, lethal weaponry, and bizarre alien creations. With THE SOLDIER in its possession, Angel can initiate a war that will make the previous battles between the Polity and Prador look like child's play. But there are more soldiers that are concentrated in and around the enigmatic accretion disc that may be able to counter their now weaponized colleague. At the time Soldier Soldier was broadcast, the fatality rate was low with most casualties due to training accidents and suicides. The title comes from a traditional song of the same name - "Soldier, soldier will you marry me, with your musket, fife and drum?" - an instrumental version of which was used as its theme music. Produced by Central Television and broadcast on the ITV network, it ran for a total of seven seasons and 82 episodes from 1991 to 1997. The military as a whole was assigned to performing more peacekeeping missions than actually doing any fighting.
