Talk about Battle of Jericho (Shelton Heights Series, Book Two)

Part 2 in the Shelton Heights series, Battle of Jericho, has a very slow start to developing the story. Although the book is lengthy as far as pages, it is lacking information. Much of the story is spent walking through conversations and everyday lives of the characters. It's not until mid way through the book when you finally get a little bit more information.

Peter Jerico has been married to his wife for over 10 years and all of a sudden one fight sends his semi perfect life into complete turmoil. His wife,Jan, packs up all of her things and moves to Atlanta. Afterwards Peter is sent into combat where life for him will never be the same. Peter exhibits marvelous strength as he and his fellow soldiers are held captive by the enemy. Peter introduces the soldiers to a faith that is never wavering. Through his faith, Peter helps his soldiers to survive not only the war at their feet but the ones in their hearts.

Peter and his soldiers are rescued but the only thing is on his mind is bringing his family back together. Peter places his pride to the side and reaches out to his estranged wife, while learning that everything is not always black and white when it comes to love. Peter, not only faught the enemy that was threatening to tear his family apart but he also proved what the power of prayer can do.
Kendra Norman-Bellamy continues to focus on issues of importance in her novels. This novel addresses some that affect many of us who are or have been soldiers, as well as those who love and pray for our safe return home to our families, whenever we are ordered off to war. Many of our soldiers do not return home, leaving parents, spouses, children and friends grieving a loved one killed during war time. Others who return home may be permanently damaged physically and psychologically by what they've experienced at war! When soldiers are away and even when they return, they must appear outwardly strong, confident and self-assured---some can't; some break down. "Battle of Jericho" tackles all of these painful issues and more. As the daughter of a Viet Nam and Korean war veteran and as a Desert Storm veteran activated Army reservist, it was difficult for me to read this novel, for I strongly emphathized with the captured Marines and with their families praying for and awaiting their return home. I recognized many years ago the sacrifices our soldiers' FAMLILIES make for our country. I hope that one day our government will realize the same and carefully consider the consequences of war. Kendra Norman-Bellamy has written a soldier's story about love, patriotism and redemption, that we all should read. We should then say a special prayer for all of the brave men and women who make the sacrifice to become soldiers and the families who love them.

I truly enjoyed this book. My book club and I are reading the entire Sheldon Heights series and enjoying each one.
"Battle of Jericho by author Kendra Norman Bellamy" is powerful read! It is the second installment in the "Shelton Heights" series. I have to be honest and tell you that when I started reading this book, I could not put it down! The book centers around Pete and Jan Jericho. They have been happily married for years, however, due to lack of trust, they find themselves separated from one another with the dreaded "D" word (divorce) in the midst.

When Pete is deployed to Iraq, and captured as a prisoner of war, his biggest fear is that he will not be able to tell his wife and daughter how much he loves them and needs them in his life. His strong Christian faith and values are the only weapons he has to help him make it through this very dark time in his life. This book has happy and sad moments. The characters are so believable, and some of them will make you want to choke them! You cannot go wrong with this book. I even learned a few scriptures, thanks to Jan's mother!

Battle of Jericho by Kendra Norman-Bellamy illustrates well both family dynamics and the role war plays in the everyday life of families. Norman-Bellamy continues to clearly demonstrate the role faith plays without taking to the pulpit and preaching to readers. Readers are allowed to take a glimpse into the lives of families and extract thoughts and considerations that play out in their everyday life. By being so realistic in the betrayal of these characters, Norman-Bellamy draws the reader in because they can see themselves or someone they may know on the pages of this poignant novel.

Battle of Jericho tells the tale of a marine stationed in Iraq, Sgt. Peter Jericho, and the war he is fighting in this foreign land, the war he is fighting in his heart over matters with his with Jan and the war that is waging in his soul and testing his beliefs and faith. Peter is forced to come to terms with many thoughts that swirl through his mind after he is captured and becomes a prisoner of war. Peter gains strength through prayer while in Iraq and hopes that this will be what it takes to bring him closer to the Lord and back together with his wife that left him before he was deployed and moved to Georgia with their child.

Battle of Jericho not only tells the tale of the war being fought in Iraq but also the war being fought back in Georgia with Jan. Jan struggles to understand where her marriage with Peter went wrong. When Jan discovers that Peter has been captured she must now look within and see if the love for her man is really gone. They share a child together and she must put on a brave front for their daughter while looking into her heart to determine if she really wants to no longer be with Peter. Jan has all of this to ponder and juggle while keeping the negative forces from buzzing in her ears constantly, her mother and her best friend/cousin Rachel.

The reader is left reading at a hurried pace to see what will happen next. Will Peter keep the faith as a prisoner of war? Will Peter return home safely to his family? Will Peter have a family to return to? Will Jan let her decision about her marriage be determined by others or by the plan the Lord presents to her? These questions are all answered in a well versed novel with a great plot and excellent character development. Norman-Bellamy has outdone herself with this piece of work and I look forward to the next book in the Shelton Heights series. I highly recommend this book.
