The only thing mini about Dr. Burgess's Mini-Atlas of Marine Aquarium Fishes is in its title. At almost a thousand pages and containing more than 1900 full-color photos, this book is big in size and value by any objective standard. The mini part of the title results only from the existence of the larger Dr. Burgess's Atlas of Marine Aquarium Fishes, the standard identification reference work in the field. Additionally, it contains a large (256 pages) section devoted to the setup and maintenance of marine aquariums. The fishes shown are indexed by both scientific and popular names for ease of reference.

This is the bible of Marine fish keeping. Its as big as a New York Phone Book and is full of beautiful pictures. When I started keeping a salt tank, a friend busted out his copy of Dr. Burgess and we would make lists of all the cool fish we would have some day- Its like the Sears Christmas Catalog (if you can remember that) for Salt freaks. Tons of info too. Its a beautiful book and a must have for any serious marine aficionado ... And don't forget to grab a giant copy of the equally glorious Dr. Axlerod Atlas of Freshwater... Its just as big... the two together weigh enough to keep your pick up truck from getting stuck in the winter ;-)

Great book, lavishly illustrated with lots of good info. Excellent reference to ID fish. Best buy from Wonderbooks & fast shipping.
Уou ll never walk alone
Great book if you like lots of pictures of pretty much every salt water aquarium fish but it provides very little other information of the fish, just lots of great pictures.

This book has endless pictures and drawings of fish. Many pictures are good, although there are plenty that appear as taken long ago with inferior film and recently scanned. It is a great to find a particular fish, especially if coloration is different. Here, many times there are many different pictures for a single fish to show differences which is very nice.

The book has icons regarding lighting, salinity, foods, etc., for each picture. The icons could o a better job showing compatibility or aggressiveness.

What this book does not have is a description that is very helpful to the aquariust such as "this fish will eat your hermit crabs", "this fish becomes a bully to conspecifics", "this fish may nibble corals" on either the family or species level. The short rundown on each family is not enough.

By all means buy this book to increase your collection, but if it is your first fish book to make selection choices, I suggest you look elsewhere and that is not even considering the price.

It's a ID guide and nothing more. Will give you some information but not a lot. Good way to ID a fish quickly but don't expect detailed information.
