The Fifth Edition of the Handbook of the Biology of Aging continues the tradition of providing a comprehensive overview of some of the most important topics in biomedical gerontology. Beginning with an introduction to concepts and theories of aging, the book is then divided into three main sections covering cellular processes in organismic aging, systemic factors in organismic aging, and models of retarded aging. The book closes with a look at the future of biomedical research as it relates to aging, health, and longevity. Key Features* Evaluation of major cullular processes in organismic aging* Evaluation of key systemic regulatory processes involved in organismic aging* Use of animal models of retarded aging as tools for the study of aging* Importance of gene-environment interactions in aging* Impact on geriatric medicine of research on the biology of aging* Written by leading investigators

Biology of Aging: Paving the way for healthy aging. To our knowledge, this is the first study on seed dispersion by an exotic primate. The study was carried out at the 106 ha fragment of Mata do Curado Wild life Refuge in Pernambuco State, from May to September 2016. March 2018 · Experimental Gerontology. We collected faecal samples from S. sciureus in the field during 10 days/mo. Fortnightly, we also verified the fruit production by fruit traps (50 traps with 1m2) during the study period. We measured width and length of all seeds obtained from fruit traps and fecal samples. A total of 147 seeds from five plant species (four families) were recorded.

New chapters on mammalian models discuss aging in relation to skeletal muscles, body fat and carbohydrate metabolism, growth hormone, and the human female reproductive system.

I enjoyed this book a great deal and I found it useful for the reference sections, as well as a useful summary of some things (like hormesis).
