Normally Holly winter wouldn't be caught dead in a place like Puppy Luv -- a mall pet shop that's no doubt an outlet for the puppy mill industry and a hotbed of forged papers, broken promises and mistreated animals.  But a hot tip on a malamute pup suddenly has Holly charging to the rescue and panting to put the owner out of business.  Trouble is, she's not the only one who has a bone to pick with Diane Sweet.  in a matter of hours the puupy love proprietess is gruesomely murdered. When Holly links the killing with the disappearance of another malamute -- an adorable live wire named Missy -- she digs up startling evidence that soon leads her into the fiercely competitive and deadly underworld of dog breeding.  A place where her biggest fears are realized.  And where her animal instincts are all that can save her.

Praise for susan conant’s dog lover’s mysteries come. Conant’s talent is her ability to keep this canine caper from turning into a dead dog. Clever characters and a good tight puzzle-plot keep this lively tale clipping along to the final page. The Yuletide setting makes this one the perfect gift for the dog-lover with everything. This book is a work of fiction. Many thanks to Elaine Jordan for answering my many questions about psychiatric service dogs and, in particular, about her beautiful Belgian sheepdog, Cibola’s Destry Rides Again, CGC, TT, SD (2004-2013), who was an admirable ambassador for service dogs and, indeed, for all dogs. Thanks, too, to Russ Livingston, MD, for talking with me about prescription-drug samples.

In the latest of her acclaimed Dog Lover's mysteries, Susan Conant delivers a dryly humorous canine caper replete with Cambridge eccentrics and professors' brats. She also tells a story of human alienation and the salvation that lies in true partnership. The obsequies, as it turns out, are conducted by a woman priest with a canine acolyte named Ruffly, a little hearing dog trained to lend his deaf mistress his gigantic ears. When Ruffly speaks, who listens? Who but the ultimate real dog person, Holly Winter, and her Alaskan malamutes Rowdy and Kimi?

This book was really good. The story line was excellent giving a perspective of a good dog owner dealing with a puppy mill, and dog shows and her own dogs, and how she handled it.

If you all decide to do the right thing, maybe the sale of animals over the counter can be banned. It has been in Norway for more than 50 years. Well written, likeable, believable characters
