Fact: The attacks of September 11, 2001, brought terror to our doorstep. Fact: Suicide bombers, attacks on mass transit, the leveling of hotels and nightclubs followed elsewhere. Fact: Terrorists' endgame is maximum civilian casualties through minimum effort. Question: What's next?Haggai Carmon's timely new intelligence thriller, The Red Syndrome, describes a plausible and frighteningly simple terrorist conspiracy: Introduce a lethal biological weapon into the nation’s food supply in a way never before imagined. Which Americans belong to the Iranian-backed Islamic fundamentalist splinter group that threatens the U.S. population? Can they be stopped? This exciting sequel to Haggai Carmon's Triple Identity again features ex-Mossad agent Dan Gordon, who now works for the U.S. Department of Justice. But in the Byzantine world of dirty money and offshore accounts, multiple layers are the rule, not the exception. Crime breeds strange mutations. Here, you sleep with one eye open. Always. Gordon's investigation of dubious Russian mob money transfers is now assigned to the CIA. The plot quickly turns to a hunt for a devastating bio-terror weapon, a hunt that features murder, coded messages, kidnapping, breathtaking desert chases, and betrayals along the way. With fast-paced action on three continents, good guys may not always have the upper hand. Problem is: who is good and who is bad? This insider intelligence thriller rivets the reader through to its surprising end.

I have read 4 of the 5 books in the series, out of order. I have found the main character to hold true to the picture painted of Dan Gordon in the 1st book. The reader can get very involved with the main character and sometimes disagree with something he says, does or thinks. Perhaps it is caused by something that seems to deviate from that picture. The story line holds your interest and attention. It clearly relates to the world we live in today.

I did not know this author when I first purchased one of his books and I found that his approach to the spy/intrigue novel was different from others I had read. At first I thought Dan Gordon, the principle character, was just an accountant looking for money launderers and that I was in for a very "dry" read, but I found out quickly that Carmon tells a story that is filled with action, adventure and danger and that he presents it in an amazingly realistic manner. Many times I caught myself thinking that I was reading a factual account of an actual operation. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and have now completed all four of the Dan Gordon novels. I highly recommend this author and this series.

The threat of Americans being attacked on our own soil, again, is as real today as when this book was first published. The story provides us with a glimpse into our government's efforts to identify potential terrorists and terror plots.

The reader is taken on a trip abroad to little known locales heard about on the news, and given insight into the foreign culture and way of life.

At first I didn't think I was going to like the book because I felt like I was wading through unneeded minutiae. But it fleshed out the characters bringing them to life. As I went further into the story I found myself both engrossed and also relating to news articles in the past few years.

The author is an excellent story teller, and I can only hope that this book is not prophetic. A definite "must read".

I just started reading this series. I would definitely recommend you read them in order. They are kind of a typical spy story, but touch on some current issues, that tie in with moral issues that make you think. And I really enjoyed learninf about the characters. I usually got for fast paced, more plot oriented books, but Haggai Carmon has a great ability to integrate just the right amount of character development, storyline and plot to make each book a satisfying read. I would definitely recommend reading all of his books, in order if possible.

This is my second read from this author. I love his true to life writing and how immersed I can become in the character. Well worth your time. An intelligent scenario that makes you think about the scary world we currently live in. Please keep them coming!

Great pace. Book took a usually bland subject and made it an adventure journey. Characters were strongly developed kept interesting throughout the storyline.
Great book- very intelligently written--fast paced, excellent characters--I am looking forward to reading many more of his novels.
