I got this book for a class I was taking and wanted to save a few bucks so I ordered a used copy from the Amazon seller bookhouse_on-line. The book was listed as being in good condition, "light shelfwear, otherwise very good" . When I got it had what looked like red drink stains and rips in many of the pages. In addition it was a copy that has information from the 70's that is incorrect information. I asked my teacher about the book I ordered and he said that it would not work for the class and I needed the newest version because the version I had was out dated. The seller cant be blamed for selling an old copy of a book but I believe the condition was very misleading. From what I can tell, there is no way to tell what edition book sellers have on the used buying option. It is my understanding there are 3 editions of this book. The first is the edition I got with a black and white cover (pictured). The second has the same cover as the first but the information is different. And the newest has the cover pictured as the stock amazon photo. So if you want to be sure your are buying the right one make sure it has the full color cover.

Now the newest edition book on the other hand is very helpful for small electrical jobs around your home, but I would recommend to have some background knowledge before attempting to try any work yourself (ohms law, wire gauge selection, some knowledge of the national electrical code, ect). It is very easy to read and understand for the DIYer or someone looking to go in to the electrical field.

I first was giving sample copy's of this book in a electrical class I was taking at a local home town school and I was impress with the basic knowledge it provides. I have no other book to compare it to, but it has every basic home wiring scenario how to wire an outlet, how to wire a 3-way switch, how to wire a switch controlled outlet, etc, etc, etc.

Booklet is black/white nothing fancy, every example has diagrams, 48 pages in length, and a little hole at the top to hang it on a nail in your workshop if you so desire to do that. One thing though that I am compelled to advise you on. Seller advertises on Amazon, New Copy's for sale at one price and use at a very substantial discount. Beware, you will pay for the New copy but get a somewhat use copy, not to shabby but used. I still would buy from this seller but I would notify Amazon and seller of the false advertisement as I did mention it to them both. That is the only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. This books is what every DIY/beginner needs. It has simple diagrams to follow based on what wiring situation you have. If you want to wire a three-way, simply turn to the page that shows how to wire a three-way and follow the easy-to-understand diagram!

Was the same book I had years ago (with a blue cover instead of this new cover) and somehow got lost during moving. It helped me to make improvements before, and will help me again.

This book was recommended to me. It makes replacing switches & sockets, etc. easy to understand & super simple. It doesn't look like much but I think it's well worth what I paid for it.

Excellent book. I love it! Very detailed and easy-to-read diagrams for all home wiring projects. I need to wire the whole house and I didn't do it before. Other books I bought gave me only very common information about wiring or only about fixing existing wire/outlets/lights. This book gives very accurate, detailed and exact information about wiring various electrical branches such as switches (including 3-way switches)- lights, switches-receptacles, switches-lights-receptacles in various combinations. In this book you can find all information to wire/rewire the whole house. After I finish reading it I don't have any questions how to wire my house.

We originally purchased a copy of this guide years ago, and it was a huge help to us as amateur electricians. Now that our sons are older, we've purchased copies for them. Excellent guide, clearly written, with useful examples. "If you want to wire this type of outlet, or lighting, here's how you do it."

Highly recommended.

My husband LOVES this book. He has the old original one and we bought this one as a gift for someone wanting to learn the basics.
