The text is rooted in Aristotelian and Thomistic philosophy, focusing in particular on social ethics related to issues of war and justice. It also covers the role of the individual and family in society. There is a lot of good content here. The presentation of Catholic views of ethics, of living a right and reasonable life for the good, is presented in a way that appeals to human experience rather than to a particular religious revelation. Father Fagothey writes with clarify and beauty, summarizing the positions of Aristotle and Aquinas with pleasant clarity.

Hutchinson began as Hutchinson & Co. (Publishers) Lt. an English book publisher, founded in London in 1887 by Sir George Hutchinson and later run by his son, Walter Hutchinson (1887–1950). Hutchinson's published books and magazines such as The Lady's Realm, Adventure-story Magazine, Hutchinson's Magazine and Woman. In the 1920s, Walter Hutchinson published many of the "spook stories" of . Benson in Hutchinson's Magazine and then in collections in a number of books.
