com User, October 13, 1997. Few books on the "Wild West" go into as much detail on specific characters as these sets of books do ( there are two others: the Lawmen and the Outlaws). Although sometimes I find these books 'dry', they are incredible references.

Some listed were never gunfighters. The term gunslinger is a modern, 20th-century invention, often used in cinema or other media to refer to men in the American Old West who had gained a reputation as being dangerous with a gun. A gunfighter may or may not be an outlaw or a lawman.
