Handsomely done and fascinating history of Paul Decauville and his innovative development of a system of sectional railways: ready-made sections of narrow gauge track that were fastened to steel sleepers. The track was portable and could be disassembled and transported very easily. The Decauville system was eventually adopted not only by numerous industrial railways around the world but also by the British, French and German militaries. Decauville railways were widely used in construction yards, quarries, farms, cane fields and mountain railways up to the 1950s. The company also produced road vehicles and construction engines. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos, drawings and diagrams. 199 pages. Oversized (12" x 8.5"). NOTE: This is the French edition so text is entirely in French.
