Walther Pistols: Models 1 Through P99, Factory Variations and Copies. What I would take exception with is the way the P99 was handled. The same can be said for the Walther line of airguns, be they pellet or BB pistols. Not a bad book, considering there is nothing else on the market that delves into the history and legacy of the Walther name in firearms. 11 people found this helpful.

Dieter Marschall originally published his book on Walther Pistols in German, but it was translated . The book is formatted as basically a catalog of models and variations – ideal for a collector, but a bit lacking as a book that tells the story of the pistols.

Unlike most books on Walther, this one covers all of Walther’s post-war production, including both current guns like the PPQ and PPX, but also the decades of production by Manurhin as well as other unlicensed copies. Whether that is a pro or a con depends on what the reader is looking for, of course.

The Walther factory provided him with an overview of the technical changes with respect to the production dates and he reported these data in his book Walther pistols: model 1 through P99. Based on this information we can concluded that 8 variations of the Walther P5 exist when we considering the technical changes as different variations. The information that the Walther company provided was very general and the exact change of the part was not described. Here, these changes we’ll be further discussed and backed up with pictures.

For it's size, this book is unbeatable. I spent a whole day going through it, and finding information which the folks at various Gunboard Forums were totally unable to answer. It covers the Model 1 through P99 with emphasis on the PP/PPK and P.38 series. What really helps are the codes and stamps which the author defines in quite a bit of detail. Post war Austrian, West German, and Vopo use are well documented. Highly recomended.
