Marc Brown's Arthur picture books are always very good, and Arthur's Halloween is no different in that regard. Even after Arthur's adventures have necessarily been expanded for the small screen, these short picture books contain qualities that make them appealing to just about anyone. The pictures, for one, are absolutely wonderful; I wouldn't have asked for more from Kevin Henkes, or Robert McCloskey.

Just spooky enough for a good Halloween read, but it had a wonderful twist in the end supporting a solid moral. Very appealing for young readers and it might help take a little bite out of the fears or else give a little boost of courage where needed. A recommended read!

I recently purchased this book for my nephew, because I remember reading the Weekly Reader version when I was a kid. I was happy to see that the interior illustrations are the same as the original, only the cover art has been changed.

The artwork is really nice and is the best part of this book, in my opinion. It also has some good messages about not being afraid of things you don't understand and not making assumptions about people. It might not have the best stranger danger advice, however, as the protagonist enters a stranger's home while trick or treating, but to be fair, the protagonist is also a talking anteater, so...

Overall, it's a really cute Halloween story with cool artwork.

I have to say it's a little bit strange if you're used to reading other Arthur books, or watching the tv program. It is clear this is an early version. The copyright is 1982 and the characters don't quite look the same. However it's a cute story and has a good message. My 4 year old requests it often.

Arthur is afraid of all the Halloween fun. When his sister D.W. decides to trick-or-treat at the large "scary" old house in their neighborhood Arthur learns you can't always judge a book by it's cover.
