Philip Cooper, senior con sulting surgeon at the Veter ans Administration Hospital in Gainesville, Fl. and clinical professor of surgery at the Uni versity of Florida, died today in Gainesville after a long illness. His age was 63. He formerly lived here. Dr. Cooper was the author of the standard medical textbook, The Craft of Surgery: He was chief of surgical services at the Veterans Administration Hospi tal in the Bronx from 1957 to 1971 and professor of clinical surgery at Albert Einstein Medi cal College from 1957 to 1971 and at Mount Sinai Medical School from 1968 to 1971.
